ok. Not Mercedes, but Volvo, however principles will be the same on this one.

I have had a cover off over the weekend to try and replace the Fuel Sender which lies. I discovered early on that it lies a lot, and that there was considerably more fuel in the tank than I thought. Consequently due to the shape a little escaped into the centre of the cover, before I managed to reseal it.

I have mopped it up, but there is still a smell hanging on. Does the smell of Petrol linger, or do I potentially have a gasket issue now as well?

Looks like I am going to have to do some calcs or run the car dry with a reserve in the boot before I can do this job...

My first car was a Talbot Horizon (R.I.P)

This had a list of issues, one of which was a fuel leak, the smell should have gone by now if you have cleaned it and got the lump hot a couple of time. Sorry, not good news:(

great. There was a fair amount of crap on the cover, and one of my suspicions is that some of this might have dropped in on the gasket. Absolutely nothing I can do about it until I use some more fuel - which I will be doing in droves tomorrow and Tuesday, with no time to stop for repairs...

Now I'm just wondering if there is a potential of a drip onto the exhaust.
