We had our first snow of 2008, last night, here in Norfolk
Travelling from my home to my local city, Norwich, usually takes 30-35 mins. Understandably, it took me nearly an hour last night, with traffic moving at a steady 30-35mph. What I didn't really understand were other motorists staying the slow lane of the duel carriageway. There was a fair bit of traffic, and all the cars were bunched up, with gaps no more than the recommended 2 seconds for dry weather driving! So me being me, I matched their speed and stayed in the fast lane. Nothing was catching me up, and nothing was in front of me. The advantage I gained was my forward view, despite the "hyper-drive" like appearance of the snow blowing into my windscreen!
While most people seem to hate these conditions, I love them! It's superb. The concentration required; the feeling through the steering wheel as you're cutting new grooves in the snow; the fact that if you tap the accelerator, just a tad, the rear wheels would spin. Not to mention, having a couple of occasions were the back end slipped out slightly, requiring correction.
And then of course (when you're at journey's end), you can admire the beautiful snow-capped scenery.
This was the state of my car after the journey...
And now a couple of Norwich's skyline. I rotated the photos, but have not had the chance to crop them, and they are a tad grainy thanks to the snow still falling! (But you get the idea)
Have any of you guys got some snow photos to share?
