Snow in Norfolk

We had our first snow of 2008, last night, here in Norfolk

Travelling from my home to my local city, Norwich, usually takes 30-35 mins. Understandably, it took me nearly an hour last night, with traffic moving at a steady 30-35mph. What I didn't really understand were other motorists staying the slow lane of the duel carriageway. There was a fair bit of traffic, and all the cars were bunched up, with gaps no more than the recommended 2 seconds for dry weather driving! So me being me, I matched their speed and stayed in the fast lane. Nothing was catching me up, and nothing was in front of me. The advantage I gained was my forward view, despite the "hyper-drive" like appearance of the snow blowing into my windscreen! ;)
While most people seem to hate these conditions, I love them! It's superb. The concentration required; the feeling through the steering wheel as you're cutting new grooves in the snow; the fact that if you tap the accelerator, just a tad, the rear wheels would spin. Not to mention, having a couple of occasions were the back end slipped out slightly, requiring correction.
And then of course (when you're at journey's end), you can admire the beautiful snow-capped scenery.
This was the state of my car after the journey...

And now a couple of Norwich's skyline. I rotated the photos, but have not had the chance to crop them, and they are a tad grainy thanks to the snow still falling! (But you get the idea) ;)

Have any of you guys got some snow photos to share? :)

That last picture is great!

No snow in Cambridge still :( bloody cold though!

We need a GTG for the east region :)

I have to say that last one is my favourite, too.

Indeed, we do need one for our neck of the woods! Has there ever been an EA GTG?

Thanks for posting those. I always seem to be working offshore when the snow falls so I haven't seen a single flake in about 3 years. :( .
The wife told me that it started snowing quite hard last night & was laying...

Still, with me not using the car at least it will still be clean ......

The last picture really is good. Looks like something Mercedes could use on their brouchures.

Seems to be a red warning on your dash though!! (Unless that's the parking brake?!)

We were over in Norfolk today visiting the in laws. Couldn't believe how much snow you've had.
Nothing here in Peterborough.

Thanks for the comment :)

My parking brake and full beam where on, so that could be what you are seeing. I have to admit I didn't notice until you pointed it out :o :D

My ex-wife lives in Norfolk. I hate to think how cold and wet and icy she must be. Whereas here in Kent its not too bad at all. Today's been quite sunny and pleasant.

Nice pics, thanks for posting them!
I got back to Norfolk from Yorkshire at 2200 on Thursday so managed to miss the snow as I worked from home on Friday. My wife confirmed that most of Norfolk was restricted to 'snail pace' on Friday evening and arrived home late in a very dirty and snowy Mercedes. Mine is clean, warm and in the garage:D
Difficult to believe I had a great, dry ride out on the bike on Tuesday!

Very nice pictures! Don't get much snow down 'ere. Maybe I'll take a trip onto the moors, never know, might be lucky!:D

Thanks for the comments re: the pictures. I have that last photo as my Desktop background, at the moment :D

Is that on Mousehold Heath?

I guess by the " " you were implying a certain something.....I know it was night, but I was not up there doing that! LOL

The exact place was by the prison :)
The last picture was taken on Unthank road, for those who know Norwich.

As well as posting about the snow, I was very close to starting a thread about crashing the Merc! Whilst exiting a bend on a country road, the car slid on black ice. I turned into the skid and feathered the throttle so the back end didn't snap in the other direction, but the driver's side went up a bank, sliding along it for about 25-30 feet, before coming back down onto the road! Thank goodness I was only travelling at 30mph on a 60 limit road. Damage seems to be a broken bumper bracket, dislodged bumper lamp and enough grass wedged under the car to returf my lawn! Upon surveying the accident site, my marks on the grass clearly showed I was no more than 12" from a ditch! A hairy moment! Even with controlling the skid, somewhat, I think it's fair to say luck played a major role here.....Lesson learnt - go even slower round country lanes!

That's the best thing to do in Ice + Snow in an old school RWD car...I'm happy to say I've learnt my lesson...lol :D

glad you surived the off ok

Lester Piggot never got that view either, and he lived there for a while too...:D

lol - funnily enough he might have if he could have reached up to see out the windows - the prison was quite a bit higher than the house
