So you put a car in your garage

You need to get ruthless and start visiting the muncipal dump.

For stuff you cant get rid of, build some shelving, celing hangers etc.

Five years ago we downsized from a 4 bedroom house with double garage to a 2 bedroom bungalow with single garage. During the move I looked at everything in the garage and shed that I had kept "just in case " , and got rid of anything that had not been used in the past 3 years. I then boarded out part of our loft and put any "keepers" up there . Its amazing how much room had been taken up by tins of paint , oil ,old car parts ( mainly broken/unserviceable ) old bikes etc. Only things taking up floorspace now ,besides the Merc , are a toolbox, trolley jack and waste bin.

I clear mine out with the intention of a car going in, then a new project starts, deliveries arrive and I'm back to square one

Mine was forced on me by a roof damaged by storms a few years ago, the garage had to be completely emptied, so I took advantage of it, emulsioned the walls white, and painted the floor.

I was quite selective of what went back in, but have to admit it's getting as bad again........

Im pretty sure that even if my garage was empty it still wouldn't be wide enough for me to open the door and get out and I only have a c class.

Mine has my bus in it.

But when looking for my current house I gave my mrs 3 criteria - 1. price limit, 2. double garage.

She completely blew the budget and I have a large, but single, garage. Which wasn't a problem as the plan was to extend it out the back. We now have an area in the summer for a pool.

Oh well I tried.

When we were last buying a house, I did have a garage on my must have list, but since all the houses that had garages were integral with the rest of the house, I knew its days as a place to store a car would short lived and calls to convert it to a play room, dining room or some such room would soon ensue.

So a triple car drive is what we ended up with and I am happy with that.

My wife's Fiesta XR2 lives in our garage.

Fortunately the car is fairly short so I still have room for my woodworking machines at the back end, although it it is a bit on the tight side.

I could get the SLK in there if I cleared out some of the woodworking stuff, but that's not going to happen so long as the XR2 is around!

BTW, traded in the SLK and took delivery of an 09 SL 350 today.

Ah I remember the integral double garage of my last house and the wife trying to convince me I could let one of them be converted to a play room.

Instead we moved from a modern Bovis home and bought a 125 year old house, nice big separate garage - albeit only single but big enough for my bus, tool chest down the side and I can still get in and out of it.

Shame I have to leave the new cars outside on the drive.

Nice :-)

We have a double garage which I have managed to keep for the cars. Wifes SLK in one side. Sons Volvo V70 in the other. He lives in London now and uses a VW Polo as daily car. 124 on the drive. Whilst its back from Italy until March I use it as my daily driver. Rent a council lock up which currently houses the CLK . Daughters Mini is also with us . She lives in Fulham and has no use for it at present. Possibly 6 cars between 4 of us is a bit excessive.

Arrival of my R129 prompted a massive and brutal clear out of 20+years of accumulated 'I might have a use for that some day'. I'm a jackdaw hoarder by instinct so it was a painful exercise. I used the age old principle that if it hasn't been used for 12 months you don't need it.

Be ruthless.

Go through everything in there. Have you used it in the last six months? No? Get rid, you don't need it.

I have stock from the business in case a client needs a next day delivery (the unit is 11 miles away and we only ship from there Mon/Wed/Fri), 4 bikes, so much golf kit it's frightening, snooker table, garden furniture, wooden flooring for the utility bought 11 years ago. In the over garage loft is everything we bought with us because we'd need it one day, that was 31/01/1997 and has never been touched since.
That's ignoring summer wheels, weight lifting kit, table tennis table, fence panels, self build gazebo at the unit.
And 3 cars on the drive and a Luton van parked outside the unit...crazy

Druk has a single length, single width garage and parks TWO proper, full-size Mercedes cars in it!

When I had the CLS & wife's car insured by the same company, they were both officially kept in the Garage,

They insisted on a photo to prove it. They have just asked for one for the ML. Untrustworthy insurance company's or what

No Garage

Hi
I have recently moved from having : Garage, Shed and large summer house to a driveway with no garage and a 9 x 6 shed.

However after a couple of trips to the tip and sorting out I have managed to fit my workbench in and with the addition of purchasing shelving and an outside chest was able to get everything in without too much trouble with space to spare. Just goes to show you with organisation it can be done.

Shame about the garage though. Had to compromise on something.
