I have just recently upgraded the headlight bulbs on my W124, the only problem I have now is that I get the back headlamp on the car again. The problem I am having is that the ABS pump is bigger than usual due to the car having ASR and is postioned right behind the headlight leaving literally a few cm of space so taking the cover of was a pain but now I cannot get it back on again, as a consequence I am now getting condensation on the glass.
Not very user friendly but does anyone have ideas as how to get the cover back on again?

Can you not take the headlamp unit out from the front? lf you are careful you shouldnt need to re-adust the headlight alignment. Open the bonnet--- remove the trim panel under the headlight--- take out the indicator unit by slackening the locking wheel clamping the support arm---- its in the very inside corner of the engine compartment. you should now be able to see all the screws holding the headlight unit in. dont forget the black plastic unit on the slam panel turn thro 90 deg to release it. reassemble your headlight unit etc etc.

The normal reason they won't go back on is that the lower fingers of the cover haven't engaged properly with the case. Get those seated and the clips should pull over quite easily

Thanks Nick but the issue I have is that I cannot engage the lower fingers of the cover due to restriction of space caused by the ABS/ASR pump, it really is that tight. Have a look at one of your cars with ASR and you will see what I mean, better still if possible try and have a go, maybe you will be able to work out a technique.

Will the ABS pump move a touch if it is unbolted, or can you put the bottom part of the cover in first as it lower than the pump

Is it possible the headlight is a little too far back, possibly after accident damage? I've found the cover to be tight on o/s headlights on petrol cars but I've never found one tight on the n/s. But then I don't recall removing the cover on a car with ASR

Nick, the headlights are perfectly aligned, no accident damage. I will try to post some pictures to illustrate the problem.

I had the same problem on my sons Clio.
It took much perseverance and skinned fingers before we finally got it on right.
