Hi!

This is my first post here.

I had a Comand 2.0 unit installed in my W168 (Class A) facelift yesterday. Much is new right now but I do have a couple of questions if someone has some ideas.

Speed, if I go into the status display (the diagnostic display which contains voltage, SATs etc.) there's a speed indicator. When I drive it works and goes up and I've noticed that is is a bit lower than the analogue meter on the speedometer, but, is this an indicator that the speed signal is properly connected to the Comand unit or does it calculate speed from satellites or something?

Sound volume, when using the navigator can you control sound volume of Comands voice? Also, when you listen to radio can you set different volumes for radio and voice so you get the "perfect match" and that you can hear the directions properly?

Calibration, I entered the tires but how do you confirm what you entered (there is no "start" button or "enter") from the tire menu? Also, how do you know that Comand has calibrated itself, do you get some kind of instructions?

Manual, finally, if I had a manual I perhaps would not have asked these questions in the forum, does anybody have a link to a Comand 2.0 user manual (for europe). My Comand 2.0 unit has the following model number; 2108204889.

MTIA! :-)

The are some electronic PDF manuals HERE I don't think your car is listed but the c class is a comand 2.0 unit so I would imagine the controls are pretty much the same.

Volume - you can adjust as she speaks with volume knob.
Calibrate - you push and hold bottom right knob to enter.
PDF's fronm site above are American but will answer your questions.

On mine, I can set volume and tone/balance controls separately for each source and I can set the contrast between the sat nav volume and the rest of the audio as well. However, if I remember correctly, that does require the Bose option.

I can do that on mine without Bose.

From memory, if you select NAV, at the bottom of the screen is a 'Settings' option. Select that and from there the 'Sound' option.

Or do as I posted and turn her up when she speaks ( or down ) - this just chnages the satnav volume not the radio/cd/tv behind it.

Thank you for your answers!

Adjusting the volume when "she" speaks works perfectly!

In my initial post I had a question about the speed signal, is there somebody who knows about this?

I also have some additional questions;

Is it possible to change the voice from female to male?

Do you always have to have the nav CD inserted when using the nav?

TIA!

Using the Settings option you can also change the Front/Rear balance of Digital Doris plus the usual treble and bass controls. Give her a husky voice and boring journeys become strangely enjoyable!

Regarding the speed signal, I have a retrofit Comand (thanks Alfie) which takes speed information off the Canbus system (the digital data system that is in your car) and also has a separate speed pulse input from the Traction Control/ABS rotors. When the (independant) garage went on a voyage of discovery enabling the dash display he managed to wipe the setting that tells Comand how many teeth the rotor has. This meant that Comand only gets its information from Canbus, which in my car means it now lags by about two or three seconds, as does the pointer on the map display. So I suspect that either you have no speed pulse connected or the unit is not calibrated for it.

How to tell......
With Comand on but not in Nav mode press and hold the 1,3 and Mute keys until you get a scary screen. This may take seven or eight seconds.
With the right hand knob scroll down to 'Configuration...'
Press the knob to select
The bottom line should have a settimg 'Radimpuls 30' (Wheel impulse in Deutschspeak). If you have it then the unit is configured to accept the speed signal.

Now to see if its present at all.

Press the Ret button until you are back to the initial scary screen.
Select 'Diagnosis...'
Select 'Errors'
If you have a fault code B1734 showing then the speed pulse is not being received from the traction control unit. It may just need plugging in on the back of the Comand unit.

Yes, you always need the CD inserted for Navigation, but you can still use a CD changer if you have one.
