some tw@ took out my C43 AMG!!!

:( unfortuatly My dream has come to a end! last Thursday i was heading round a bend with cars parked on my side of the road leaving the other side of the road to be free, I passed the parked cars and went round the left hand bend to find a Vauxhall astra van (company van) stopped in the road blocking it. I slammed the on the brakes as you do, and cullieded with the van, The impact was at 20-25mph. Im in two minds now on what to do. I have the car back from the insurrance company and i have the choice of breaking it or selling it as it is for repairs. It has been classed a Cat C on the insurrance hpi thingy.

Here are the pics of it....

As i said im in two minds in what to do with it. I might sell it as it is or break it and sell the parts seperately. I drove it to my sisters house from the scene and the recovery truck driver drove it onto the flat bed, so its mercanically drives, and no damage anywhere else, just the front end. i will get some more pics tommorrow or asap of the damage. Really i would perfer to keep it whole and fix it but i need a car to drive NOW and my other cars arnt ready for the road, i could'nt afford to fix it in such short time. I have another c class lined up but i will need to get at least £3000 back from mine, in parts or sold as a whole. £3000 i have been told to go NO less for as the damage is not enough for a 7-9000 pound motor. the cost to repair this car would set you back about 3-4000 pounds roughly if that!! The most expencive bit would be the drivers airbag sterring wheel...£1500!!!(passenger airbag is ok) and over £1200 for some more xennon head lights, but thats if you want to go for xennon, which isnt a need be.

The slam pannel nearly touches the engine but doesnt quite. Both wings are fine from there back, and on both sides are fine throughout the car.

It has not got the standerd AMG Alloys but they are 18's wolfrace 5 spoke, The wheels are abit scruffy too, but with brand new tyres all round. The rear tyres are mitchelln pilots and the fronts are Avon's, £660 all round in total! and that was 3 weeks ago!! I am considering on keeping the wheels for my new c class or my cavalier turbo (and a bit of modding to the arch's! lol) so sale may come without any wheels.

Please i would like to hear your thoughts and might just help me out in making my mind up, and at the same time if the right decision is made then it will help you out too.

It also has a full service history too, and 96000 miles and the transmission has just been flushed and new filters 7 weeks ago.

Thanks Very Much in Advance :)

Joby.

Not sure how a stationary vehicle could be blamed. Me thinks you were going too fast in what looks like a residential area.

Lucky it wasn't a pedestrian.

Sorry about your car, but the fact is, if you can't stop within the distance you can see, you're going too fast. Bad luck though, hope you get the car sorted.

I think you have the title wrong, unless you are referring to yourself in the 3rd person?

The fact is that you have to drive at a speed that allows you to stop before unexpected obstacles like this. If you could not oversee the situation far enough, then it sounds like you were simply driving too fast for the circumstances.

All that being said, I can understand you must feel gutted by what has happened to your car.

I think I have seen this C43 AMG before. Such a shame to see another one off the road. Hope it can be repaired, sorry for your loss.

That was quick.

I'm not sure breaking is an option unless you're a licenced breaker.

""Going to work at 7am this morning I drove out of my drive straight into a bus. The bus was 5 minutes early." (thanks N Bradley)

"I was driving along when I saw two kangaroos copulating in the middle of the road causing me to ejaculate through the sun roof." (from an Australian claim form - ack N Shepherd)

"The accident happened because I had one eye on the lorry in front, one eye on the pedestrian and the other on the car behind." (Thanks Sharon Burrows)

"I started to slow down but the traffic was more stationary than I thought."

"I pulled into a lay-by with smoke coming from under the hood. I realised the car was on fire so took my dog and smothered it with a blanket."

Q: Could either driver have done anything to avoid the accident? A: Travelled by bus?

The claimant had collided with a cow. The questions and answers on the claim form were - Q: What warning was given by you? A: Horn. Q: What warning was given by the other party? A: Moo.

"I started to turn and it was at this point I noticed a camel and an elephant tethered at the verge. This distraction caused me to lose concentration and hit a bollard."

"On approach to the traffic lights the car in front suddenly broke."

"I was going at about 70 or 80 mph when my girlfriend on the pillion reached over and grabbed my testicles so I lost control."

"I didn't think the speed limit applied after midnight""

etc

I think this post heading should be
'Some twa@ in a C43AMG hit my van'

I don't understand the post.
If it is an insurance write-off then surely the car becomes the property of the insurance company and they would dispose of it? Are you trying to sell this car, or are you telling us a story?

John the confused

Crashed on Thursday, written off and sold back to owner by Tuesday?

2 working days.

Fair play to the insurance company...

20 to 25mph impact? If you're going to breaking don't sell the brakes!!!...

...they appear to be ineffective if they can’t shed more than 5mph off your speed!! I assume that you were travelling at no more than 30mph on a narrow street and were already slowing when negotiating a blind bend!!!

Does anyone think these to threads have got something in common?

Fantastic!! :D

This is quite embarrassing. I'm in an open office, and keep bursting out into muffled laughter every few minutes. My ribs are aching too!!

How fast was he going? NB, the cars in the profile and 'hardcore bhp driver'.... you don't Poirot on this case guv.

...oh and the lack of damage on the Vauxhall is a tad disturbing

Sorry to hear about your accident.
I dont think the van was to blame though...............

"slammed the brakes on" yet still the impact was 20-25mph.

cat C write off and bought back in 4 working days? Sorry but I've never seen an insurance company even write a letter that quickly. Never mind resolve a claim involving 2 vehicles

Now call me suspicious but .........

I'd suspect you were driving a little too fast on third party insurance and you are trying to recoup your losses by selling the car

So far your story holds as much water as an old sock

Andy

Of course I'm happy to be proved wrong

imagine if the Vauxhall was also being driven in the same manner as the C43around the corner where the collision took place.

It would have been a heck of alot more messy.

Virtually the same as the W202 apart from the smashed lights. The Vauxhall has a shorter grill and looks less prone to bending upon impact then the wide opening of the W202 grill.

As stated above, would be intresting to see if the crash was the other way round

That aside, glad noone was hurt!
