Looking for flexible Mercedes dealer or a locksmith who can make 15 plate car keys
Sorry, meant where is the car, you said you need the car back 🤔

Correction: I need the keys back* so I can get back into my car

Working on getting the v5 transferred to my name - also looking for a flexible MB dealer or locksmith who can make 2015 plate keys

Mercedes dealers do not make the keys.

They are ordered from Germany once authorised.

Even if a specialist locksmith could make one they would need access to the OBD Port normally to help program it I think.

What’s the OBD Port?
Is this the ignition/EIS?

The OBD port on a vehicle is the (universal format, I believe) socket that allows an external source to interface with the vehicle's computer. The Electronic ignition switch circuits are a sub-circut of the vehicle.
Hth.

Fwiw I still believe you should task the Insurance company with sorting the "lost" key. - On top of their eminent suitability to deal with equally bureaucratic corporations, it may obviate any concerns about the legitimacy of this endeavor. Afterall, they would ultimately be most vested in ensuring that any keys are only obtained by a legitimate keeper. ( Because otherwise they would be liable to reimburse for any resultant loss, wouldn't they)

Same here, I ordered my spare key (the car was sold to me with only one key as the previous owner was only supplied with one key from a gigantic used car dealer) from MB dealership. Wasn't keen to let some stranger read the hash-codes off my key which will allow them to make multiple keys.
Not possible to make a key, based purely from the old key. The blade yes, but info from the EIS needs to be obtained, and in some cars the ESL motor to complete the hash calculation for a new key. There are may different types of authentication/immobiliser versions and implementations across the years, despite all keys looking the same. Aftermarket keys are not available after 2015 (FBS4).

If an oik wants your car, they will be get it using the key from inside your house (breaking in) or a Keyless repeater etc.
I do think somebody cloninig your EIS and key data, then coming back to steal your car is probably right on the bottom of "most likely ways to have your car stolen"

Thieves follow the path of least resistance :)

If someone found my keys and handed them into Mercedes,

would Mercedes know the keys are for my car based on the hash codes/key data?

They probably would not care or do anything. I found a set of keys, not Mercedes & phoned the main dealer. They did not want to know. There was a gym membership tag on it so I emailed the gym & asked them to email the owner to say that I have handed the keys into the police.

Oh ok. Hopefully they were retrieved.

Instead of someone handing them in,

if someone was arrested with my key and police insisted on sending the keys to MB for examining - could MB trace the keys back to my car and contact me?

Pre fbs4 no.

Post fbs4 possibly, but all the main dealers in the UK wouldn't have equipment to read this data.

Posted in wrong section and I haven't had a drink!
