Hey guys.

I'll be looking to change my spark plugs soon.

I can get a set of plugs that MB would use during a service, but I was wondering if I should be going for some uprated plugs.

Are there plugs that are better than others?

I know that you can get platinum tipped plugs, but I'm not too sure if they make that much difference.

Can anyone shed some light?

Cheers guys.

:)

I bought somel Platinum ones off the Bay but as yet have not fitted them. I hear they are do make a huge difference, It would be grreat to hear from other users.

I would have thought your car already had platinum tipped plugs.

Yeah, I would have thought so too.
But I'm not sure.

I can get hold of a set that MB would use, but I'm not sure if they are platinum tipped.

Do MB use platinum tipped plugs?

I can get their part number, if it'll help.

Yeah, I've heard they perform better too.
I'll try and find out whether these MB plugs I can get hold of are Platinum tipped or not.

If not, I may decline them.

Apparently, the plugs that I'm being offered are specific to the 63 engine.

...so maybe they are platinum tipped then?

:)

When you say better, what do you mean? More performance, longer service life, smoother running?

In the grand scheme of things your choice of spark plug won't make a huge difference. Simply replacing the plugs, will yield a bigger difference.

I had a car that was sensitive to spark plugs - it had an uneven idle that NGK Platinums cured, but OEM Bosch from the dealer did not - and I have no idea why.

The plugs in your 63 are sure to be long life plugs - and possibly platinum. Unless there's a specific deficiency I'd stick to OEM personally.

Hi mate.

I'm still learning about plugs.
I've heard that platinum tipped plugs give a stronger spark when under full load?

I'm thinking if I change my plugs, might as well install the best type of plugs.

As I mentioned, these MB plugs that I'm being offered are apparently specific to this engine. So perhaps they are indeed P. tipped.

I might go with you on this one and get these MB ones.
As for long life plugs, yeah you're probably right there too.

My plugs are probably the originals and still in good shape.
I'd just like to know that I've got fresh plugs, that's all.

Thanks for you reply.

Yes they do. When I changed the ones in my E55 I sourced them from GSF.

They gave me OEM platinum plugs made by Bosch and they were half the price of MB.
