spark plugs

Hi,

Anyone know any good 'plugs to improve performance for a w203 c320? mine need changing but as i have been qouted over £200 thinking there must be something else out there?!

I guess the rough break down is:

12 spark plugs at £5/plug.......£60
2hrs labour (assume £70/hr)...£140
Total.................................£200

Mine cost me £250 to change at the local Stealer. 12 plugs plus labour at £98.50+VAT per hour!

PS is that a record for main dealer labour rates?

Replaced 16 spark plugs on my E55. Plugs cost £60 of ebay (original Bosch platinum) + quick visit to George Fraser = £110 inc labour!

Yeah, about right but labour is just around £74 i think.. I went to see if they could check my headlights and they wanted 1 hour labour... and if the bulb was in need of replacing... £140+VAT...... hmm. New bulb of ebay = £5 and my local handy andy = free!

Are the plugs just Bosch PLatinum tipped then? nothing special etc? and would that account for a rougth ride? I thought the maf was on its way out but its not and on my last service, the invoice states plugs to be changed at next..

At what mileage should the plugs be replaced as my car is now reaching 49,000 miles and I presume still on the original plugs. Why is it so expensive to change the plugs as they do not look difficult to change, even the guy at my local garage lauged when I told him the prices, he was amazed as he had just changed the plugs on a C240. Will the plugs make much of a difference to performance really?

My delaer advised they shoudl be changed on or around 70k... and my car has started to stutter a little lately hence me thinking this was the maf. Checked the last service invoice and in the notes it was printed plugs at nxt interval (b).

God knows why it costs so much - i will not be going to the stealers thats for sure! Had a look under the bonnet, and one side looks a little akward so will find someone to carry out for me.
