Ok i have spent hours now trying to find out information about where to find the speed pulse wire on a 2000 ml.

On connector A1 there is no wire at all (previous thread suggest on newer cars this is the speed signal wire.

There have been suggestions that i need a canbus adaptor but i dont understand how this will help if i cant find a speed pulse wire to connect it to!

This question has been answered several times in the last day or two! Please check other threads listed in the electronics section! :)

Yes i have read all the "speed signal" forums but it appears that no one knows which colour/location the speed signal wire is on the 2000 ML. I have been told it is there and to buy a canbus adaptor but i have also been advised that the canbus adaptor has nothing to do with the speed signal. Frustrating or what

Thanx but i have read this one before also. Still doesnt say where the wire is!!

I have recently installed a comand system to my 2000 ml320.

I bought the a comand with part number starting 163, so the system was intended for use in a ml. I also bought the wiring adaptor to connect the comand to the original wiring, and an antenna, which I have located on top of the dashboard.

I have not installed anything regarding canbus.

I have not installed a speed pulse wire.

Yet my comand works perfect. It is very accurate about the cars position and is spot on with its navigation directions.

My point is I dont think I need a speed pulse wire. So I dont see why you should need one.

I did set the tyre size and reset the system so the calibration is fine for the car.

I understand that if you use a comand from other models, that the gyroscope angle is different, and its the gyroscope that is used in calculating the cars position, when satellites are not picked up.So you may have to check at which angle the gyroscope is set.

Hope this is of some help.

Thanks wobbly this is interesting because the navigation is working and the map/position is accurate. The problem is that the system thinks i am off road all the time therefore audiable directions are not given. Iam assuming this is down to the speed signal. Do you have a wire going into plug A pin 1?

Do you not find the directions are to late if you are travelling quick?

Hi bmac

Are you using a comand from a ml?

I get audible directions, and even at speed the navigation is spot on.

When I installed the comand I checked for the speedpulse wire.I checked plug A pin 1, and there was no wire there, from memory I think there was only 4 wire to plug A.

I did come across this site http://www.delta-autotronics.com/Speedsensors.htm it dosn't list 2000 model, but lists 1998 and 1999 which may help.

Let me know if you do find the wire, and I'll see if by fitting the wire it makes any difference to my set up.

Wobbley,

Mine is a W208 canbus unit but i dont see why this would be any different. The angle is the same. I might try a reset on the system.

It is very frustrating as the arrow travels along the roads but it doesnt recongise the fact that it is on the road and not off road!!

I am now goingto try removing the instrument cluster to locate a speed pulse behind the speedo. Went to an car audio specialist and they said my car doesnt have any canbus to connect a canbus adaptor to.

Did you read the delta autotronics site, it said on the 1999 ml that the wire was located in the fuse box region!

You are correct this quesion has not been answered by anyone in recent days or weeks.

Hope you sort this soon it seems that its driving you mad.

All one has to do is buy the original adaptor cable for ones car. Then it becomes a non-issue.

The adaptor cable is not suitable for my car. You must have a speed pulse to connect to.

I have a 2002 ML and had an Alpine sat nav system fitted....The fitter thought that i may need a can-bus adapter but then instead went on to use the wire that controlled the original Audio 10 radio/cd unit 'auto volume' as the 'speed signal'.

It is much easier on a 2002 ML the speed signal is at the radio IsoA pin 1. Unfortunalty not the case on the 99/00 ML

Sorry the delta autotronics site isn't working.I only checked it last week.

From memory it stated for 1999 ml. In engine bay remove the fuse cover the remove 5 torque screws on the cover which covers the ecu(?), and on the flat connector the speed pulse is pin 1.

As I said this was from memory, but it may help.
