sport exhaust tip removal

Hi guys my e280 cdi 06 exhaust tips are really dirty and I want to take them off to clean them I see from underneath there is a allen bolt but oncr I remove this bolt the tip still doesnt move is there a nack to this thanks

Good question as mine are the same. Someone must know I thought they were just adjusters.

Different car, but when I removed the bolts on my CL the tips wouldn't move. In the pic, the inner piece of metal you can see at the end of the tip tapers inside to make a tight fit with the exhaust pipe itself. After initially admitting defeat I went back weeks later and sprayed WD40 into the rear of them between the tips and the exhaust pipe. They came off eventually by constantly wiggling them sideways and a hefty pull. It took a fair amount of effort so if your exhaust is not in good condition I'd be very careful!

I'm glad I persevered as they do look better now.
