At the sort of mileage you are quoting I would not have thought it was the brake pads and taking the key words (over a bump) (when you brake) It would suggest maybe a suspension issue i.e pressure on the suspension going over a bump and also pressure on the suspension when applying the brake pedal.

Would the squeal, squeet be when applying heavy or soft pressure on the brakes or both.

The rear pads should be good for at least another 24000 miles.

Are you still under warranty (57) if so then get them to check it out

Is the noise speed related?

it happens when i apply soft brake and even at a slaw turn you hear the noise , the warranty ran out two weeks ago but when i had the MOT don at MB they gave her a full warranty check and gave her a good bill of health.

Sounds like pads to me or possibly the foot brake shoes.

My money's on dirty/dusty rear break pads. Try giving them a good wash with a pressure washer and then go out for half a mile and dry the brakes off. The brake dust builds up at the back of the pad and can cause squeel like you say. I bet if you brake hard it goes away and returns as the car almost comes to a stop.

It's not quite your problem, but it may have the same cure.

I'm (usually) quite a gentle driver, and recently noticed a light 'pulsing' felt via the brake pedal at wheel speed when braking. It pulled up in a straight line without a problem, so I guessed it was just the surface of the disc(s) needed a good clean.

One 'Italian Brake Tuneup*' later the pulsing had gone and all was well.

* A hard stop from about 60 mph.

i will give it a go tomorrow because just the thought of the suspension being the problem give my wallet a anxiety attack, thanks to every one i will report back after the break dust up.
