Had a quick search but couldn't find a thread....my brakes are squeeking (but only at low speed as I'm reversing off drive or approaching lights etc). Can this be rectified easily?

I'm intrigued! Is that a drive to Portsmouth

You just need some copper grease (anti squeel grease) between pads and shims.

Tom

and possibly a good clean up of the pads, pins, clips and caliper contacts with a wire brush...you may even need new pads. Best get it checked.

Ditto.

Before doing that give the brakes a good hosing to clear junk out from between the pad and disk.

if he needs new pads it would grind and not squeak.
Either he has driven in some dusty area and the squeak will clear soon or his discs are not flush with the pads.
A good hose down of the pad area with some high powered jet spray should clear out any dirt or dust.
Any time i go to pick up some stuff from one of our supplies my breaks squeak as i live his site as it is full of dust like the desert.
It soon clears though.
or just top up with copper grease

Copper grease is not the best grease for this aplication.

I have some special grease from MB to help eradicate brake squeek.

Cr4p (cheap) pads can also add to the problem.

There are many methods to stop brake squeek. Re-greasing is one, cleaning is another.

Brake squeek is a very common problem within dealers and most have develpoed methods to eradicate it.

What would you call cheap pads, that you wouldn't recomend fitting?

Not OE or similar.

There are loads of manafactures of brake components and I always stick to the good makes like ATE, Textar, Lucus, or gen MB.

I NEVER have a problem with these.

Does anyone know why there is a big difference in the price of rear pads for the ML. ATE, rear pads 38 plus vat and Textar 66 plus vat from Euro's?

Is it quality.

Probably not. They probably sell more ATE and get a bigger discount.

I am now an EBC Greenstuf convert. Not cheap and squealed like a B****d (err..noisy) when first fitted.
They said this was a known problem for them but fitting anti-squeal shims and greasing the back of the pad fixed it stone dead.

I have only used the green stuff for some 5 years on my cars, I had the red on my 129, they were very good. I have tiny squeak sometimes from the nearside front. I used the CERA TEC copper free grease, as I had 10 sample tubes

On this greasing I have done the same, by doing the shims and the pads.

MB say that only the face of the piston should be greased

Put Textars in the rear of a W124 and the brakes squeal in reverse. Replace then with MB pads and the squeal goes

Enough evidence for me to stick with MB pads

All pads no matter what the brand have potential to squeel as they all produce brake dust.
Quenton something or other (QV) and Mintex also good brands.

Tom

Fitted the Green pads and even after giving the backs of the pads a heavy coating of Copper grease, they have started to squeal .....Never again !!!!

I have brake squeal and thats why I always stick to the Manufacturer's pads...this was a bad move.
