Hi all,
while driving normally (W124 engine 111),when I pass a road bump, the SRS lights goes on and the radio goes off, then on the next road bump the SRS light goes off and the radio goes on
I also noticed that when the SRS lights goes on,I cannot close or open any windows or the sliding roof.
What is happening?
Thanks

Can you read the fault codes on your 1995 W124? I believe it is pre-ODBII and will has the old-type 38-pin plug?

where can I find them?
thanks

do you think the 'pre-ODBII with the old-type 38-pin plug' is the problem?
is it easy to repair or do I have to replace?
thanks

A loose wire somewhere.

Could also be the contact ring behind the steering wheel. I had this on my 124, removed the wheel, cleaned out the copper ring, re-asembled and problem sorted.

Looks like you have a loose connection somewhere best places to look would be streeing wheel and passenger side seat

Start the engine and get someone to watch/listen to what's happening while you go around the car and shake/disturb wiring and looms - inside and under the bonnet.

hi...
I considered what 'EDZ649' said, went for test drive, when the SRS light came on I hit the steering wheel from behind and the SRS lights went off!!!!!!!!.
So I believe prime suspect would be the copper ring .
IS removing the steering wheel an easy DIY? per in mind the air bag.
Thanks

Pretty straight forward, first thing to do is disconnect the battery. Then you will need a Torx screwdriver No.25 or 30, can't remeber, to undo the two retaing screws at the back of the airbag. Disconnect the wires to the airbag, take the keys out the ignition and turn the steering wheel so the lock is on. You need to remove the Hex bolt that holds the steering wheel on. It will have thread lock on it and will be tight if it hasn't been undone before. I generally use a long breaker bar. Once the bolt is removed wiggle the steering wheel and pull towards you at the same time, it should just come off the spline and expose the copper contact ring.

Just give it a wipe with some Methylated spirit or similar and re-assemble in reverse order. Don't forget to clean the back of the steering wheel too. Make sure you line up the cut out in the steering wheel pline with the one on the column.

In addition to above once you have disconnected the battery go under the passengers carpet, remove the foot tray and release the red plug.

But this isn't dangerous?
I mean, won't the airbag explode in my face? or the trick is in the red plug mentioned by Ian B Walker?
Thanks for all

No, it won't explode in your face. Just make sure you disconnect the battery and the red plug first. I have removed several airbags this way without problem.

If you are at all unsure then it's best to take it to your local mechanic.
