Change the location from South Korea to the West Midlands and I don't think the reaction would be quite the same

I'm reminded of jeremy clarkson on an episode of have I got news for you. someone accused him of being responsible for rovers collapse as he always disparaged their cars on his TV show. he responded with a pause and then said "well, I don't think I can take all the credit.."

I am sure someone will tell me a good reason why I read this thread, and perhaps how it affects my life in someway.

I am sure someone will tell me a good reason why I read this thread, ......
Possible reasons:-
1. It is about a car manufacturer and this is a car owners forum?
2. It is about a car manufacturer going bust and others may follow in these difficult times
3. It is about a car manufacturer noted for copying Mercedes designs -and this is a Mercedes owners/enthusiasts forum
4. It is about a car manufacturer who uses a lot of MB parts/engines/ even chassis and so its fate might just be of interest to MB enthusiasts especially since it is a further loss of business fo MB.

Many of the postings and photos have been interesting -well to some of us.

well, specifically its a Mercedes forum and therefore not relevant

2. It is about a car manufacturer going bust and others may follow in these difficult times

Why did it go out of business? that may well have some bearing on whether or not others will.

3. It is about a car manufacturer noted for copying Mercedes designs -and this is a Mercedes owners/enthusiasts forum

Ahem, that kind of suggest point 1 is not really a point. But did they copy, or did they have a license to produce?

4. It is about a car manufacturer who uses a lot of MB parts/engines/ even chassis and so its fate might just be of interest to MB enthusiasts especially since it is a further loss of business fo MB.

This suggests to me that you may be thinking this could have an adverse effect on Mercedes?

I would not wish to argue with you there.

I hope you don't take offense if I mention that a lot of your threads about other car manufacturers do seem to take a down beat outlook to the future. Comparing that with your support of the R-Class which appears to be not the best decision MB ever had, I do feel you take the black side of things a shade to easily.

I hope I am wrong, and I hope loads will jump to your defence, but I do feel you would benefit from lightening up a bit.

Life really really is too short to be bleak about everything.

Just my opinion. You should by a C63 to cheer yourself up a bit.

Almost forgot...

Interestingly, Ken Greenley from the Royal College of Art in London designed several Ssangyong models, including the Musso. Possibly the most challenging until he penned the Rodius. Made a better job of the Bentley Continental R, Bentley Azure and the Aston Martin Virage though.

:

yes....I believe he made a decent fist of the Skoda Fabia, before sketching the Bentley....

Bite you have but the bit I've quoted I disagree with because

1) This is a Mercedes forum for Mercedes owners but not exclusively so. Not everyone on here presently has an MB, and I'd hate to think that this excludes them from joining in. Not all discussions evolve purely around MB cars, and this includes you.

2) We also discuss motoring related issues that have nothing to do with MB cars. This being a recent example. it may not be MB relevent, but still has its place on this forum

3) SSang Yong did actually use MB architecture, and engines. Its does therefore invlove mercedes parts at least and is probably more relevent than a lot of other "non mercedes" items being discussed.

I guess the point I was making was that Hawk made point 1 and then point 3, which basically are the same although he was trying to separate the 2.

I don't actually remember saying anything about it being Mercedes Owners only, but that can easily be taken out of context in the way I worded my answer.

I do have to say, a while back, some members, still present, did try to make the point that non mercedes owners should not be part of the forum!!!!

Enthusiasts do not have to be owners, but enthusiasts may well think that Ssangyong going down the plug hole is rather amusing, and removing thier cars from production is actually a good thing.

Imagine the Joy when BMW go!!!!

The main point I was getting at, was that first post I made in this thread, was obviously light hearted. If I did not find anything of use, I would not have posted, however I felt it could do with a touch of lightness.

Hawk actually took the post literally, and made an attempt, in what appears to be, all seriousness and answered it. Having read a number of his posts about other manufacturers, they appear to be doom and gloom. I felt a bit of joviality would help things along, What ever the state of the financial crisis in this world, we are not all about to die, the world is not about to end, it won't stop spinning and we will not be slung into space. Mercedes will still be here not matter what. And even if it went bust, your cars do not turn into dust, so we can keep them going as long as we feel like lavishing attention on them.

SSangyong may have gone, but like a gas, something will move into its place and fill the void.

Just taking a lighter view of the world, thats all.

Good points ***.

And some might think it a lot more interesting than someone discussing buying a BMW.

Thanks for clearing that up. Maybe I misread it but it appeared to go hand in hand with the view point I've put in bold below and thats why I took exception to your post.

I actually came accross what I think you mean by chance surfing old threads looking for a remedy for a minor problem.

I completely disagree with the part in bold, and I am glad you do too.

but enthusiasts may well think that Ssangyong going down the plug hole is rather amusing, and removing thier cars from production is actually a good thing......SSangyong may have gone, but like a gas, something will move into its place and fill the void.

As a car enthusiast I can see the angle you're taking but I completely disagree with this, especially the bit in bold, I can only marvel @ that. Whats filled the void in the ex mining communities, the ship yards, the midlands where leyland once built bad cars. It doesn't work like that.

From the angle of a few less bad cars in the world I can see the funny side, just like when a Gwiz gets smashed I laught out loud. But lots of redunacies, and lack of employment for people just trying to put a roof over their heads and food on the table, I can't easily make humour out of.

Funny you say that re BMW's, you were looking at them as I pointed out. If BMW, or any other prestige car maker went out of business, then car makers like MB would have less competition and less urge to continuously improve their product line. That would be a shame. BMW are also a large source of employment in the UK, and we make their 4 clyinder engines over here. We don't need more job losses over here. Just imagine you did buy the 1er and it was Bye bye BMW, getting spare parts, repairs etc would be harder.

Although your wish for BMWs demise isn't altogether unrealistic, due to the volume of finance and leasing BMW provides, they have a big hole in their books when they are getting ex lease cars back which are less than they are worth.

Nowt wrong with a bit of humour and a lighter view, and long may it continue but the post I quoted didn't really come accross as that, hence my less than humerous reply.

I think this is sad,

Makes me smile people bickering like children over a car manufacture about to go. Doesn't matter what manufacture we all love cars good, bad or indifferent and they give people a choice.

As mentioned not that many on here care :) they are popular with caravaners and the jeep version I think looks quite smart. If it had NO badges you would struggle to tell what it is.

I thought these also use the Merc 270 engine? so that DOES make it Merc related on a merc forum? and anyway its under general discusion. Like TV channels if you don't like it switch off (don't reply / join in) your choice?

Think of off the people that will lose their job, thats not a laughing matter for anyone.

so I had a bit of shock when I rolled into work this morning.

found this in the car park

DSC00070.jpg

turns out one of the staff has been given it as a courtesy car while his (alfa) gets some warranty work.

They gave him this as they asked him if he had Kids, and he said yes. He was not as chuffed as he would have been if he had said no, the other car was a C Class!!!!!

still, looks good don't you think?

Ahhh the Odius Rodius. The strangest thing is somebody actually buys these bloody things. I have to agree that Kia has switched itself on of late, see many more on the roads here, a friend hired one at the airport, a Ce'ed, (strange name but I think that was purely to provoke interest) and was impressed overall given its price etc, and it looks half reasonable too.

They were practically giving the Rodius away to cabbies at one time. Horrible things

How ironic is this..?

SSangyong are the only mainstream manufacturer to have sold more cars in December 2008 than December 2007..

MARQUE.......2008.....%market share.....2007.....%market share....% Change

Ssangyong.....36..............0.03..............24.............0.02............50.00
