Very scary...........or what you don't know about this EV issue

Hi , Gove has stated that IC cars will cease to be produced at the advertised date.

I believe that the government in general know that battery cars are not the long term answer to private transportation.

My journey profile does not suit battery cars but I have recently hired a battery car but I was on edge all of the time re working charge points. At my age I have to stop ever couple of hours for a pit stop and have a coffee ( no more cakes ). : Does anyone know what the average waiting time to allow access to the charging point.Tesla charging points are appear to full every time I have a look at them at M4 East Malmsbury.

I don't get carried away with battery cars catching fire , ic cars catch fire. The % tems should be similar I hope.

Mrs Boyband mobile phone is much hotter than mine when charging , not an issue according to the manufacture.

Essex police according to the news say battery cars don't work for them , similar to Gloucestershire Police.

If you don't get scared when EV catch fire go have a look at what is happening off the Dutch coast right now. And watch the video I posted a few minutes ago.

Even if caused by something else , once the EV goes up in flames it's game over .

The car will route you via available chargers.

For those with cars that don't have the same level of tech as the Tesla, there's the A Better Route Planner (ABRP) mobile phone app, that gets real-time battery status data from your car and live info from the network, and plans an optimal route for your EV for the quickest journey with minimal charging stops. ABRP will guide you to the charging points and will also tell you how much juice to put in the battery at each stop. Yes, it's AI taking over the world... but it works.

My father headed up the special protection section of a fire protection company. I now run both an EV and IC cars.
I've also spent years standing in front of moving racing cars and ridden stupidly quick motorcycles for most of my life.
My attitude to risk assessment is fatally flawed.....I just don't know when.....

But don't underestimate sink / toilet unblocker. The muriatic and sulphuric acid content is insane.

EV to bog unblocker - there's thread creep....

Using two differing products in the loo can inadvertently lead to making chorine gas!

Very nasty - corrosive to your lungs!

Be careful!!!!!

There were also Freon and Halon... the latest fire suppression system does not use gas, instead it suck the air out of the room. I've also seen a datacenre that has a system that sprayed mist - water vapour - apparently you can increase the humidity in the room sufficiently to suppress a fire but without damaging the electronic equipment.
I was once in a data-centre when the ‘fire’ button was accidentally pressed, that armed the Halon system to drop with a 30 sec delay, alarms & lights going full blast.

I’d never seen operators exit a room so fast, fortunately a ‘cool-headed’ Ops Manager was able to override before the Halon dumped.

That memory is engrained forever! 🤦‍♂️

I just picked up a new EQE SUV and it already has a built in map route planner with where to stop for a charge, for how long and what charge you will have on arrival and departure.

Welcome, Spitfire :)

Yes, some EVs do have it, but in my case (IONIQ 5) I find that ABRP is better than the on-board satnav. But MBUX might be better than Hyundai's Gen5W (the latter is now obsolete anyway).

Don't know it it was a urban myth, but when I was on aircraft carriers the WAFUs would speak of something used as a starter fluid in Wessex and Sea King helicopters that essentially created oxygen when burning. So all you could do was contain the fire until it burnt itself out

Dunno about heliocopeters, but certain British jets (Hunter and Lighting being examples) used AVPIN as a fuel for the starter. Nasty, nasty stuff.

Welcome Maverick405

Whereabouts in Hampshire are you please?

I'm in Catherington - PO8

That was it - AVPIN

That stuff is innocuous next to what fighters use in the event of a flame-out. Hydrazine I think it is and what's said of it is if an amount smaller even than a pin head contacts skin. cancer will ensue. Not maybe, but will.
The MOD and RAF never answer questions as to its use but it's known that pilots practice relighting flamed-out engines in flight. Over land or water I wouldn't know but safe to assume that an amount no matter how small escapes to atmosphere during the process before ignition is achieved.

AVPIN.

Late 70s I was in the RAF Cadets, and went to RAF Brawdy in Wales, where they had Hunters.
I remember the safety briefing we got regarding refuelling and start ups.

“If there’s an AVPIN spillage, take steps, effin big ones, at high speed, in pretty much any funkin direction - just AWAY. 😂
