Anyone had this?
One of those extras they try to sell you -- usually at a great markup! Any good folks?

(Not going to get GAP from them -- can get a policy from autotrader for £200 instead of £600 from MB!)
Ta,

Steve

edit: still a RTI policy - just like the merc (and covers your excess (up to £250))

I've never tried StarProtect, but when buying a new Audi in 2004 I was offered the equivalent, I think for ~£200.

Instead I bought an Autoglym LifeShine kit off Ebay and applied it myself for ~£20.

I find it hard to imagine that the two are so different to warrant the extra cost.

I had it on my 203. Certainly helped maintain the shine. Is it worth what MB charge? No! But on a car purchase you can probably negotiate this into a freebie.

There are several online GAPpers - try click4gap...

Ive still got some of the autoglym stuff in the garage i remember the autoglym man telling me he sells loads to car garags for £25 and they then sell it on for £200 plus:eek:.
Basically its in an aerosol can with a special sponge.

What is StarProtect?

I've got StarShield - which is just the standard paint and interior protection package, same as Diamondbrite / Supaguard / Lifeshine. It was included in the agreed price of my car in what is just some sort of accounting / commission scam, but I was happy with the price so it didn't cost me any extra.

MB also does StarSmart, which covers minor paint repairs etc.

Got Supagard thrown in free on the A-Class. Also managed to get it thrown in free on our new Honda, so you should be able to get them to do it free.

You can buy the Supagard / Diamondbrite kits on ebay if you want to do it yourself.

Star Protect

I was offered this product for £300 on a used C Class at Mercedes Direct Caterham. I declined it & was then given it for free along with Star Smart. It does seem to protect the shine well without having to wax. They also apply protection to the interior but I can't say I've noticed any difference there.:thumb:
