start problem with my A Class

Yea it turns over no problem all lights go off no lights come on. if I live it for one hour or 30mins it starts. I dont get why it does this help please.

ok, I'll presume your car is auto.
when the engine is warm and it won't start you can try this first, there's a black plug by the left side of the battery with 3 wires, the purple wire goes to the starter, with the ignition on and gearstick on P give this purple wire a live feed from the battery, if the car starts then there's a good chance the lockout switch on the gearbox ECU is faulty.

I have starting problem with Petrol engine 200TE Automatic W124 when cold , with only 98k miles on clock. It takes 4 or 5 good churning attempts before engine fires up. Even then it requires 1 min or more before I can drive off. Thats only at the first start of the day - otherwise its fine. I have been pointed in the direction of a leaky pipe, or air getting into fuel system maybe at the return pipe. Any help is welcomed. Thnk u, Ponton.13/5/12

Fuel accumulator ( beside the fuel pump and filter under the car below the rear drivers' side seat ) ?

The car didnt start again today this time the car did not trun over all the lights and everything came on but it started about 2 hours later any help please?

Just coming to this thread , I would be inclined to suspect either a faulty starter motor , poor earth return ( either between the starter itself and the engine block , or between the engine/gearbox assembly and the bodywork ) or a fault in the starter circuit ( hence the test proceedure Olly mentioned earlier - bridging the positive terminal to the purple wire to see if the starter operates ) .

This is difficult to diagnose at a distance ( sorry , I am in Scotland ) so if the above does not help you need to find someone competent near you . Anyone who knows what they are doing should be able to sort this for you .

The car has done this few times now i dont know enough about cars what should i do?

Hi forrera the car starts in the morning without a fault it does not want to start sometimes on short journey say few miles.

i dont anything about cars and my car is a manual so what do I do?

my garage is in west London, i'm more than happy to help

Where abouts in west london is your garage?

Just want to start the car it would not start its been parked up from 1pm, all the lights came on no problem it just would not start, No sound from engine at all.

this is not something what can be sorted remotely. and the free diag offer is still on

Starter motor problems on 168's are very common. I have replaced plenty over the years. 4hr job.

Now this is what is confusing me. It looks like my starter will need replacing. I phoned up an indi a few and was quoted 4 hours like you did. The spoke to Mercedes who said 10 hours, then went back to the indi who went up to 10 hours :dk:

So what is it? If its an engine out job it would take longer than 4hours wouldnt it? (desperately hoping that it doesnt).
