CLS 350 Grand Edition
I have a 59 plate CLS350 and I would like to have it in sport rather than comfort mode when I turn it on. I can't see anything in settings - is this something that can be done on Star?
Thanks,

On my SL it retains whatever setting it was in when I turned it off... So I leave it in "S".

It should stay in the mode last used when starting the car well mine does, it maybe different on the newer cars :dk:

I was told that the C and S buttons do no stand for "Comfort" and "Sport" but are for Winter and Summer use the "C" button when its icey as it starts off in second and gives a softer gear change so that it is less likey to spin the tyres on ice/snow..

Tells you in the manual

C = Comfort
S = Standard

Comfort pulls away in second gear for use on loose surfaces and winter conditions

Car will always start in Standard on the newer models

Mine always starts in C and it's infuriating having to remember to switch it over to S each time.

When it starts up in C it automatically activates the Stop/Start function which is embarrassing if there are people near the back of the car when it fires up again as it's a bit loud, much easier to leave it in S.

As above mines always starts in C

selecting S also deactivates the Stop/Start so saves me switching it off.

My old E Class always used to stay in what it was set to but this car doesn't. Does anyone know please if it can be permanently changed on Star?

Starting in C (with stop-start) enabled will be part of enabling the car to achieve the best possible result in the fuel consumption and emission tests.

Isn't "S" ....... SPEEEEEEEEEDY.????

The newer models always ( as I've been told ) will revert back to c ( Eco mode ) to comply with the emissions , going to give mine a try later and let you know lol

^ This. It's what I was told when asked if it could be changed on Star.

All to do with Brussels M'Lud.

Just re read my post and I've done a trypo,:doh: of course the cars always start n C due to the emissions regulations and so start stop is engaged

Not knowing really how the stop/start works, if the car is left in drive, does the engine turn off? If so, and you have a heavy right foot, won't that be a little dangerous.

Just been out in the SL and it definitely goes back to c when turning off and then restarting ,,, and yes the bl**** bureaucracy is stupid but guess it's their way of helping the greens lol

Basically as you come to a stop using the brake, once the car has physically stopped, the engine will cut out. This is providing that the massive list of conditions such as temperature, battery and loads of other stuff has been met.

As soon as you take your foot from the brake the engine will start again, literally before you get your foot across to the accelerator, so a heavy right foot shouldn't make a difference. If you're using the brake hold then again, once you touch the accelerator, the engine will fire. It can be a very smooth operation and is no doubt better on economy but mine's practically un-silenced so tends to scare children and little old ladies when it starts with the obligatory bark.

C = comfort or standard gear range, for icy and smoother pull always, up shifts earlier
S = sporty , later up shifts compared to C mode
M = manual

The user manual States it will start in the last mode selected for 'c' or 's', but on my 2010 CLS GE, it also resets to C mode on restart

So toe and heel operation is out of the question then :D
