Any one know how you go about renewing one of the steering wheel button assemblies? Its my R171 SLK, the left hand side set of 4, 2 for up the menus and 2 for down the menus. It has the gearchange switches on the back of the wheel if that makes it harder?

The left hand down button has become squeaky for some reason and despite cycling the thing I cant get rid of the squeak:dk:.

Cheers.

Hello.

On the early R171 V6 model variants of the 350 & latterly 280 like mine, (MY's 2005 - 2006 I think), the buttons were an item that came as standard with the 7g auto box.

From late 2006 or maybe early 2007 MB seperated the buttons from being an included item with the 7g to and extra optional item within the price lists.

So, you could order the 7g auto box as a stand alone option but, if you wanted the buttons, (paddles now), you also had to select those as another option. The codes being 427 for the auto box alone and 427/428 to include the buttons/paddles.

That might explain the lack of buttons on yours however, and this is the bizzare bit, a few cars managed to escape the factory during the 2005 build year without the buttons when they should have had them. When owners noticed this the cars were brought back into the dealersips for new steering wheels complete with buttons which again, might go some way to explaining yours?

Cheers.
