Steering wheel fitment

But will your existing airbag fit the wheel?

That part number is not valid for the Black Series, so not the same as kjay's wheel

Your right. The one he's posted in the link is standard MB used in some 211's and some 230's. It's the same as the one Peppernick replaced and sold.

Black series has the flat bottom, but uses same airbag.

I've noticed today that AGE Tuning are no longer on Ebay(?)
Pitty, as they always had a good selection of steering wheels. May be possible to track them down on the Net though.

Yep, noticed AGE Tuning gone a couple weeks ago. They certainly had a good selection of wheels.

It will still fit ? and with my airbag?

Nice looking wheel - contact Comand (Richard and Alfie) if you need help fitting plus the paddle shift mod.

Hi

The physical wheel size & airbag type were used on the SL and CLK, then the 2007 facelift E class also used that type - which is why you find 230/209 airbags/wheels in the SL/CLK and E class parts catalogues

So that wheel has come from a 2007 or later W211 as its definetly the facelift wheel - and thus your CLK or SL airbag will physically fit

The litlle controller you see in there is the paddle shift controller, the cable hanging off plugs into the airbag, and the contact spiral plugs into the controller. The question is what is will the contact spiral plug into the controller - and will the SCM understand the paddle shift controller. I have not yet answered either of those questions for the 52 plate CLK.

Different age cars used different mechanisms to connect up the buttons - some used those control units (which talk to the SCM via LINbus, which talks to the rest of the car via CAN bus), some used 2 extra wires , one going back to the gear knob electronics

To add confusion, I have a similar nappa leather & alcantara brand new wheel that i suspect i'm going to sell shortly - bought for my SL but the original SL system is too different - but i'm waiting to try and get the little cable from the control unit to the airbag that I used in Peter's car last week !!

Excuse all the terminology, i've used it as it may be useful to others at some point.

Richard

I wish i could find a steering wheel like that to fit my W202... My knees keep touching the wheel with alot of contact when turning, so annoying!

Do you not have an adjustable steering wheel? i.e. rake and reach? Small lever under the column?
