Stink from Air con & fan

Can anyone advise what may cause a really bad damp smell when the air con is switched on? Seems to be on any setting, (auto, air con off and only the fan, or manual air con).

Saw the thread previous to this and the difference seems to be that mine is all the time - my wife says an air freshener will work but with her not being an expert I have to pass on her suggestion.

Any ideas and how eays/complicated is it to do myself? If a professional job roughly how much is it and where would do it? Kwik fit, Farmers, etc?

Thanks in advance.

When was the last time the pollen filter was replaced ?

Not sure. I had a look at the service book and I don't think it's been done. Should it be done at service time as I'm due a service (B) in 8900 miles. However I think I will not be able to stand the smell until then!!!

Changing the pollen filter probably wont sort out the stink problem but still is a good idea to change regardless, just rememeber to get it replaced on the next service

Might just cough up and get the filters changed now.

Im shure someone with a W203 that knows how there changed can help with a mini guide as i dont think theres a How to for the W203

would be very grateful to anyone that could provide me with an "idiots" guide to replacing them and what parts I need to save a few bob!

Cheers for all the help guys.

Simon

Cheers Malcolm, think I follow the diagram. Hey - at least I know where it is in the engine bay now! ha ha.

Dropped the car back at the garage where I bought it as there were a couple of things to get looked at and I thought I'd chance it and told him to have a look at it. Worst case I'm left to fix it myself and will use the diagram you gave me.

Thanks though.
