Slightly off topic but this video sprung to mind

Interesting point regarding the van actually costing the business 25% less via CT exemption, however this might not apply to sole traders? Do tradesmen pay CT?

I’m quite surprised that the original petition posted in the first post never even managed to get to 300,000 signatories

Slightly OT, but it's staggering to see how many people are fined for various things (ULEZ, Congestion Charge, Dartford Crossing, etc). You'd have thought people would know by now that there's a charge to pay.
No doubt there are plenty of reasons why they are paying however that wasn’t the reason for my post. It was more to do with the staggering amount of money that’s being made off of this.
A large portion of the money is “re-invested” in public transport. In reality does this mean that it’s propping up public transport because somebody at TFL is a lousy housekeeper??

I’m working in Oxford at the moment and the parking outside the job is a 2hr max. Loads of guys on site park their vans there and take the £25 parking ticket on the chin.
Why do this when there is a public car park charging £15.20 per day? Reason bring that the vans outside the job are loaded up with tools and equipment so the traffic Marshall’s etc can keep an eye on them. The council run car park has zero security and of course they take no responsibility whatsoever.

Councils aren’t stupid are they?? 😏

I think the currently infamous Woking Council up the road from me are quite stupid. But yes i do agree with your point in general! Im sure as well that the Mayor will have ways of siphoning off funds to other areas if he wants to with a bit of creative accounting. Im no expert but could he also also use the revenue to enable more borrowing to support other areas?

We’ve got a savage amount of work on new-builds in Woking at the moment. Loads of hard metal stuff.

Maybe push for payment up front if any of it is has anything to do with the Council!

Interesting. You'd have thought that Oxford will have some sort of tradesmen parking permit scheme. They're shooting themselves in the foot.

That’s takes brains and forward thinking which is something I’m starting to notice that the council don’t have.
They only cut their grass verges once a year so you can imagine how that looks.

The tip of the iceberg perhaps. London must have unbelievable transport links, air quality and pothole free roads

Drivers hit with £400m fines for Khan’s eco charge

The Mail
This is the money raised just by fining drivers for not paying.
How much more is Kahn taking in ULEZ charges??

Yup its a joke and nothing to do with air quality, its all about raising money.

They didn't charge us £12.50 to smoke in pubs, they banned it.
They didn't charge us £12.50 to smoke on planes, they banned it
They don't charge you £12.50 for every KWH of electricity you get from a coal fired power station.

So why are they trying to charge us to drive fairly clean (in comparison) but none ULEZ compliant cars. Either Bann them or dont..

You'll be thrilled to know then, that the government isn't planning to tax new ICE cars, instead it's banning altogether the sale of new ICE cars as of 2035. Clearly, this demonstrates our government's genuine concern about air quality, I.e. instead of opting for the tax-grab option as Khan did they are banning sale of the most polluting vehicles.

Why are ICE cars being banned? My little 02 plate Fiesta is non-polluting.

Its 2030.....with the exception of the very cleanest hybrids with a 50 mile min pure EV range....which is not many of them.
