Stop expanding the ULEZ to all the London boroughs in 2023

All I can say on this topic is, thanks f*ck I move house in the next month or so!!

I'm 100m within the most southern part of this expansion, they have put cameras along every road exiting a fairly small area containing nothing but houses and two schools. For me to leave the end of my road which has 15 houses along it, it will cost me £12.50 and I have no intention of driving anywhere into the zone, I just want to leave! My other half will be paying £25 for every night shift she does and working at a charity for kids with brain injuries, it doesn't pay huge wages.

Scrap a 2011 ML350cdi that cost us £13k 18+ months ago? Not really an option is it but it'll cost us to sell it and buy something else if we chose to.

I think what frustrates many local people is that we're not in a built up area, outer edges of London Boroughs don't all have buses and trains on the doorstep either. So many outside of the M25 think everywhere within it, is some built up metropolis with tube stations round every corner.

I'm just glad to be moving 120 miles away to the middle of nowhere in Gloucestershire! At least avoid the inevitable road pricing that will be coming once the 'pay to pollute' income starts to dry up anyway.
This relates to many friends and relatives of mine. ☹️
 
Are the numbers of non-compliant cars sufficient to make a significant impact on businesses by staying away?

Or in other words... how much business does the Glasgow MB dealership lose from the fact that owners of pre-2015 Diesel cars can't visit them?
 
On another note, as I said before I am not making light of the hardship that ULEZ brings to some people, but I do find it humorous how the Daily Mail is milking it:

I wonder how many people will be driving around on false plates to escape the charge, also how will the fines be collected from our travelling friends after they’ve done their collecting rounds

probably more significant than people realise ; we aren't talking properly old classic cars here , because at only 30 years they become exempt , and I don't consider my W124 an 'old' car in the way that something from pre WWII is ; in Germany such cars are called 'youngtimers' in contrast to 'oldtimers' which is applied to cars from the 50s back , or at least the 60s .

The LEZ here only affects petrol cars between 20 and 30 years old , and diesels between 15 and 30 years old , but these are exactly the cars that a great many of the less affluent members of public have , and there are still a great many running around ; things like Polos , Golfs , Ford Fiestas and escorts , there are plenty of such cars running around , many driven by people with little or no interest in cars , hence no wish to change them .

Many businesses are already on the wane because of punitive parking charges which affect all visitors , reduced numbers of parking spaces , so that even with willingness to pay , many just can't get parked ; and not driving in isn't a nice option if , after a night out , the late night train home is filled with drunks and yobs , something i have experienced more than once . it used to be quite a pleasant thing to drive into the city , go for a meal then see a show or a movie , and head home afterwards ; that just isn't so easy now . instead of being filled with people out spending money , my recent experience of Glasgow city centre , walking between Queen St and Central stations is that the streets are filled with beggars looking for money , and many shops have the shutters up .

there was a very similar article in the Eveneing Standard last night , saw it on the yahoo! homepage .

I know of someone selling a very early 1993 190E on an A plate , now quite a sought after car anyway , but possibly worth a little more down south , rather than in Banff , where it currently is . Mt friend's mother had it almost from new but recently gave up driving , and this seems to be the chap who bought it six months ago now selling it on .
 
Maybe in Glasgow you could accidently drive through some mud and that mud accidently fell onto both your number plates on the way to the MB dealer..

Of course you would do your best to make sure they were clean and readable.. at your earliest convenience.. ;-)
it is no further for me to down to MB Ayr for parts ; just i hardly go that direction but am often up and near Glasgow , so it was handier . Not as if i visit the dealer that often , but for many items I prefer to buy genuine parts , things like oil filters , rather than aftermarket . In 11 months I will be exempt and able to go back in .
 
This is from London Air.....so we so we really bad to do anything at all...especially as the air will naturally improve as older cars die , tech improves and EVs begins more common place.

EVs just cause a different kind of pollution and shift the pollution to different areas ; their production is more harmful and with many countries still burning fossil fuels to generate electricity , then all the losses in transmission and distribution , losses again since batteries are , like everything else , less than 100% efficient , and worst of all , what do you do with the toxic , spent batteries once they reach end of life and cannot be recycled ?

Hydrogen fuel cells may be a better way forward , but for now , older people inevitably die , but any older car , with proper maintenance can be cared for and made to last indefinitely .
 
I don’t think so because the ULEZ is a London thing.

The Poll Tax riots was countrywide and therefore affected millions more people.

Seeing that most people appear to dislike Londoners the rest of the U.K. is probably glad we’ve got it and probably are secretly laughing at us!!

They want to be careful though. 😏
ULEZ is a London thing just now , but so was LEZ a while back , and now it is here , spreading just like Covid .

Glasgow , for several decades , has had the most polluted street in the whole of Europe : Hope Street . Funny that a good part of it is buses and taxis only ...

Oh it’ll grow all right.
Once other councils notice what a money spinner it is (I mean how clean their air is) they’ll all be jumping on the bandwagon.
 
A lot of our Eastern European Chippys are pissed off because or the ULEZ. They love a diesel Passat and they’re all having to sell them.

They don’t think much of Kahn at all.

Eastern European Chippies? I thought Brexit was meant to get rid of them! Well if it didn’t perhaps we should be thanking the Mayor, no?

They’re the ones who have been here for years. Probably when that little turd was still in his shorts.

Except burning fossil fuels in a power station is far more efficient than doing so in an ICE.

The Grid becomes ‘cleaner’ year on year, an EV will become ‘cleaner’ powered as the renewable infrastructure improves, an ICE will always be powered by fossil fuel.

So much of what you’ve said is incorrect - I suggest you have a read up…

EVs are no longer ‘the future’ they are ‘the present’.
