stripped thread injector bolt

ML270 & CLK320
I have an ML270 CDI (2002) and had a 'chuffing' injector. So searched and found the advice on how to fix it, seemed quite simple, so went off and bought 5 bolts and washers so I could do all of them.

However on undoing the number 3 bolt (the one that was chuffing) I found that the thread was stripped, which is maybe why it was chuffing in the first place.

Now the job is beyond where I am comfortable so I need a specilaist to come and fix the problem. They need to come to me as the car will no longer start becasue I cant get the No3 to clamp up at all.

I live in Warwick, anyone got any advice or recommendations please ?

Best regards
Frank

I'd be interested to know why a standard or "long" helicoil couldn't be used.

I just had an injector seal replaced at a local garage and the thread stripped, they called out a guy who fitted a helicoil and all seems well.

May be worth asking some local garages who they use when this happens.

Hi, ive had a leaky injector on my c220cdi w204, had seals replaced on all 4 but one started leaking approx 8000mls later, local mercedes specialist (whod replaced seals previously) replaced the copper washer and stretch bolt, but now the injectors ripped out the hold down bolt and threads, i re-tapped the m6 thread to an m8 and fitted a shorter m8 bolt as a weekend temp repair, the cars now back at merc specialist and they informed me the m8 thread wasnt the best, theyve now bored the thread to an m10 and fitted a suitable bolt aswell as drilling out the hold down clamp/fork to accomidate the m10 bolt, i havnt yet got the car back but am worried that an m10 is a little big, and can anyone shed any lite on why im having a constant issue with this 1 injector seal leaking! I love the car and this one issue is really getting to me! Done 100k mainly motorway drivin very nicely, any help is much appreciated!!

It was not done correctly in the first place by the sounds of it, hence the re-occuring problem. I've had one of mine bodged, it currently has had an M10 bolt in it for months and is holding well. I have been looking for a suitable helicoil/timesert type repair so I can use the original bolt but cannot find one. I have looked into 'bigserts' but information is inconclusive.

One bit of advice, my original M10 was too big as the head of the bolt hit the injector (no idea how they got it in but I could not get a socket on it to get it out!). Eventually I got it loose and off, then replaced it with a hex bolt (much smaller head) and a spring washer. Has been fine since

M10 Bolt Length?

I've had one of mine bodged, it currently has had an M10 bolt in it for months and is holding well...

I've got some major issues with a Jeep GC 2.7 (as you no doubt know this is the same engine).

Injector number 3 was blowing and needed repair, the injectors out fine but the hold down bolt has sheared in the head. Due to my cack handed drilling for a stud extractor which has gone off centre I can only see that going bigger will get me going again.

So to the question, can you tell me what length of M10 bolt you used please?

I may well try for a better repair in the future, but want to make sure an M10 has sufficient thread engagement to not rip out in the interim.

Thanks.

That's great - thanks for the quick reply :thumb:

Don't go too deep when drilling, there's water cooling galley that runs under the injector clamp bolt holes.

Its possible to penetrate this, if you do you will have to use sealant on the new bolts to prevent water ingress.

Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the advice above, it now lives again with a 45mm x M10 bolt holding down the injector.

I don't know how long it will last but at least I'm up and running.

Thank God it was number 3, if it had been 4 or 5 it would have been a whole different ball game!

:D

Hi, I hope this thread hasn't closed.
I know the M6 bolt has a torque setting of 7Nm + 90deg + 90deg,
but what is the torque setting for the larger M10 bolt?
