A good friend of mine has offered to lower my car for me pretty much free of charge so what I would like to know is the best springs/damper combination for my Coupe. Basically, it needs lowering by at least 40mm as at the moment it's virtually classed as a 4x4 and I'm getting weird looks from people. Been advised to get dampers changed at the same time so bearing in mind I don't know much at all about this sort of thing, please help!

The web is a great place for me to search and google these things but I don't know what is best or what works best, I have seen G-max springs for not too much money, h&r, eibach, all respected names but what have people used and what would people recommend? Thankyou.

Also, a website link to the product would be useful to me as I get confused easily as to which one/s I need/;) :D

Just get a couple of very excessively over weight people to sit in the front and back of your car all the time when you drive - problem solved FOC as well! :D

However, long term effects of the above may mean you ending up with a bent chassis!

And single figure mpg! Plus my street cred will go through the floor!

Nice idea though.....:D

If you're going to buy springs, I'd go for H&R or Eibach. Personally I feel that money spent here is definately worthwhile. It's a faulse economy to go with cheaper brands. Not sure what MB you have - I'll get you some links.

it's a 1994 E220 124 coupe. :)

Gina2201,

I'll get you some details on Eibach and H&R on Monday when I'm back at work

Spoke to Eibach UK this morning and they say there is two opions for the 220CE depending on whether you have self leveling or not.

For models with Self levelling: lowers front by 35-40mm and rear by 30-35mm. price for these are £120.00 (inc VAT)

For models without Self levelling; lowers the front by 25-35mm and the rear by 25mm - 30mm. Price for these are £150.00 (inc VAT)

I think these are pretty good prices for eibach's.

Can't get prices on H&R till next week.

PM me for more info (don't want to sturn this into a thread for sales!)

Bilstein is the way to go. Very good quality and ride comfort is good also.

Search for the B12 kit.

(make sure the rest of your suspension in A1 before fitting it)

I'm getting mine done (courtesy of Olly) and have been looking through europerformance.com as they have a good range of suspension kits. I emailed them to see what they said about their different manufacturers, so if i get a reply i'll send it on to you.

As far as price range goes, Weitec's were £444, right down to Gmax at £272 (cant even consider coilovers....£££!) but i guess you get what you pay for. The bilteins i'll 99% probably go for are £421.

Hope these prices are good as a guide, all give around 40mm drop.

As long as the phrase "angle grinder" is not used.

Many thanks for that, erm, how do I know if the car has self levelling or not, apologies for my density:o

I found some G-max ones for £122 inc. VAT, but I have no experience of these.

I doubt your car has levelling..it was an expensive option. You can tell by looking under the rear of the car and you will see either normal springs an ddampers or springs and different struts.

It should say if you put your VIN into the decoder.

Therefore I believe it NOT to have self levelling :)

Looking under the bonnet is easier and cleaner, look for the hydraulic oil tank or the oli pump attached to the front of the rocker cover :D:devil:

Believe me when I say that you should consider a set of GMax spring only if you own a Citroen Saxo or the like. But if you own a well built German engineered car you should only be considering a well built German engineered set of springs.
