Strange? I'm with L&V for my big heavy and definately turbo-ed 320CDi. Best quote by miles.

hint... try getting quote from LV through Quidco. get £40 refund in a couple of months. :)

i have a full manual licence for both bikes and cars :)

the problem is they see "3litre" and thats it, they dont look at what it is in, 3 litres is a very big engine, but without a turbo and in a heavy car like a W124 its far from high performance! i am not complaining tho! i am no boy racer, i like to just waft around in comfort (yay for w124s!!!!) however i did only get my category B on the 7th december and im a young male so insurance companies like to r@pe my wallet :(

How Dan Dare they treat you like this. Have you tried "Eagle" Star?

Probably best to go on as a second driver through one of your parents.

The problem with that is, that they will have to be the legal owners of the car- still, you will get a quote, and a lower premium. you can also earn no claims bonus at some companies.

Tesco is very competitive.

My relative works for LV, so tried to get a family discount quote on the Merc - wouldn't touch me.

Odd - I am insured with LV, although it is because of CSMA membership, and I have never had problems with cover.

I came close to buying an XKR a few years ago, and their quote was really good. For a laugh I have put other cars through their quote system, and it will happily provide quotes for E55s and E63s...

I have (or had) "zero" NCB on my Group 20 AMG due to NCB being used on the Golf instead. At the time I was 29 as well, I've heard that 30 is a big deal in insurance.

Quite a few insurers apparently have a blanket "0 NCB + Group 20 = FOAD" policy in place, judging by my calls that day.

It's Schrodinger's Insurance - I have both 5 and 0 years' NCB at the same time.

Me too. I like dealing with the people there on a personal level but I'm getting really fed up with having to cancel every year and renew online to get a decent price though.

We don't suffer noticeably from that either. I wonder if it is because my wife is also insured with LV so we have a multi-buy discount? Checking online doesn't make much, if any, difference for us.

One day, we may be able to understand the insurance industry. Yeah - right!

That will be it then

We see the same on the CRX forum - young guys who have just passed their test believing its their "right" to own a nippy car. Most of those who do pay the extortionate premiums to insure the car end up breaking it for spares in the first year after an accident.

Now I totally understand that a 3.0 diesel is no AMG or even a CRX - but from an insurers point of view it is a very heavy torquey 3.0 car driven by someone with very limited driving experience.

Why are you not looking for a much more suitable Clio or similar for the first year ? Insurers load the young for a reason - and I bet they lose money on each of those "rapings" !

My Dad is with LV and insures two cars with them (separately, not on a combined / family policy), both of which are petrol engines and over 3 litres. Perhaps it's worth giving them a call?

LOL. There is nothing high performance about the E300D. I know i have one. I often get overtook by grannies on cycles.

I'm also with LV = there were great when I had a claim and as long as their quotes are in touch with others I will go with them (as insurance is only as good as when you claim).

I suspect that insurance companies are looking for easy ways to limit young drivers to manage their risk profile, and engine capacity is one of them, insurance group is another.

I suspect that 99.9% of road cars with an engine larger than 3 litres will be a relatively swift vehicle - just bad luck that the E-Class N/A diesel isn't one of them. I can't think of another than would offer even a similar ratio of performance per litre of engine capacity!!

Not wishing to insult - a great car, just not the norm in terms of performance for 3.0+ cars!!

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you... the automotive industry of North America!

My 4.6l Lincoln Town Car rental produced a whopping 210hp, allegedly, and it felt more like 130 due to the car weighing something like 3 tons.

My guess the car is not actually on the database due to its age. Either that or due to your driver risk profile you may be looking at a Toyta Aygo! ;) Seriously give them a phone to find out why exactly you have been refused. They are normally very competitive.:)
