Taking dpf from E250 2009

Thinking about taking my dpf out..
Would I fail the emissions test on my next MOT?
I’m hearing a lot of mixed rumours so thought I’d give it here a go.
It’s a C207, E250 coupe 2009.

Yes , if the test is carried out properly.

It is fitted for a reason.

Any factory emissions equipment removed or obviously modified......instant fail .....whether it passes the emissions test or not. And it probably won't pass the "no visible smoke" section of the test without it anyway......unless it's one of those "special" £100 MOTs! And then there is the £1000 fine if your are caught on the road without it (£2000 if its a commercial vehicle), voided insurance if they spot it during inspection, etc etc . Just not worth it these days to be honest.

No you wouldn't fail it, I had my dpf removed on a previous vehicle I owned.. w212 E250cdi
And also removed from my previous C207 E350cdi

Its an instant fail.....if your tester decided to pass it lets just hope he checks the brake a bit better than the emission equipment. A few years back a hollowed DPF might have passing if it tested below the limits.....not now as they tap them to make sure they are not hollow.....wont pass the recently introduced "no visible smoke" part either....well it will with your tester!!!

Lots of people remove DPFs in a way that's not noticeable for MOT, i.e. Gut and replace original. Usually recommended to get a specialist map to ensure it's "smokeless".
My understanding is that they usually pass emissions fine.
Not recommending or condoning of course.

It;s not like exhaust noise, which is subjective; like speeding, it's a binary offence - you are either breaking the law, or you're not. If you're happy with that, go ahead; break the law; you probably won't be caught; don't come crying on here if you are...
