Tapped by a 4x4

Folks,

I have a dilemma.

At the weekend one of my family members decided to 'tap' the front passenger wing on the CLK as per attached photos.

I've been quoted £826 whcih was discounted to £750 by the main dealer to have a new wing supplied, painted and fitted.

My question is this:

Do I get the dent "dentmastered" out or do I have to get the repair done by a main dealer to keep the warranty (mobilolife)?

The car has FSH.

The chap at the dealer said that dentmaster might get only 80% of the dent out but could damage the inside of the wing therefore invalidating the warranty.

Can I source a wing from say Mercman or Dronsfields, get it painted then get IBW to fit it?

Would this invalidate Mobilolife?

HELP!!

tia,

Kj

Update.

I've had two 'dent master' quotes this morning.

I know that it would be the cheaper option but there's no guarantee that the wing won't rust is there?

Has anyone done this before?

They both said that the paint was actually cracked so basically the wing will rust, don't know when but maybe over the next 12 months.

The second guy said he do a 95% job. Can't get 100% without changing the wing.

What should I do?

tia,

If you have protected no claims bonus, claim on your insurance and get a new wing. If you intend to dispose of the car over the next couple of years used dentmaster, the next owner will have the problem. Lots of possibilities.

If the paint is cracked then anything dentmaster do is just a short-term cosmetic fix. It will soon rust - especially in such an exposed position. Also, the crease at the top is quite severe and I doubt that it will look that good after a dentmaster-type fix. They have already flagged a 90% fix is likely and you know that isn't really good enough.

If you want to maintain your paint and rust warranty I don't really see you have any choice but to follow the guidance of the MB dealer.

Bad news for the 4x4 owner... but you have to do what is right for your car and its warranty.

Paint doesn't seem to be broken so i would use dentmaster.

Its cheaper, won't rust unless the paint is cracked (can't see a ny paint damage in pics), don't have to worry about having the paint blended in/same shade etc.

That dent doesn't warrant a replacement wing, it would simply be knocked out from the back, gently filled and painted.

Also dentmaster would get it out completely. They won't damage anything but may drill a small discrete hole to get to it. MB won't notice!

KbhogalW126: - If it was me I would make the "relative" pay just like anyone else for a brand new OEM wing/paint job unless it is a “immediate” family member i.e. parents/bro/sis!!!

flash: unfortunately it is an immediate family member!

Its sometimes surprising how well dentmaster can repair a dent.
Whet quotes have you been given? Maybe give the options to said relative, offering to accept the dentmaster repair, and if you are happy, leave it at that, and if not get them to pay to have it repaired properly.
Replacing a wing seems a shame for a small dent. So many things are disturbed when doing so, and it could affect lining up etc. A non MB garage may be able to repair and repaing the wing. Yes you will lose the mobilo warranty, but on that panel only.
