got woke up about an hour ago with someone banging at door. answered it to some guy shouting your car is on fire. looked up drive and the old rs escort burning to a crisp. GUTTED.
her indoors phoned 999 and i set about it with a fire extinguisher. didnt last long before it empted and couldnt fill buckets off water fast enough. heard sirens in the back ground just as house windows were cracking, gutters melting and garage starting to go up in smoke. quickly moved bmw and c36 out before they went up as well.
fire service done me proud and saved garage, and my house.
couldnt thank them enough for there fast response, would say they were there in less than 4 minutes :thumb:
fire started from under the bonnet and the inspector and police put it down to an electrical fault. car had not moved in over a week and was only in drive as dualiner is getting few jobs done in garage. if it was in garage then i would have lost that as well.
all in all a pretty *hit night

What an awful thing to happen.

I wonder how an electrical fire can start on a car that has not moved for a week? Scary stuff.

Sorry about the RS Escort.

Good to hear that no one was hurt, and that much more serious damage to property was prevented.

Sorry to hear this. Glad everyone and your property has been saved.

As a side issue just got my rates bill and and wondered why we need so many fire appliances in Lancashire - This is a timely reminder. My share of the Lancs Fire and Rescue cost £63.65. That'll do for me.

Sorry to read about your loss, and glad it wasn't any worse. Scary stuff.

thanks for comments. yes could have been a lot worse, we were lucky. the fire started in the passenger side of the engine.

Sounds like a brilliant response from everyone concerned and a fortunate end result for you and yours.

Even an expensive CO2 extinguisher at work will only last about 10-12 seconds. Only really designed for small office fires rather than an entire car.

So good to hear you and your family are ok.

Gutted for you. At least house and family are ok.

Maybe some rodents are chewing the wires.

Sorry about your car, must've been horrible watching it burn :(

I didn't realise a car could catch fire just sitting in a driveway. How common is this?
