Car
190e 2.6
Conversation in the pub with Ian on one of his trips down South to see family: I said..... " Ive always wanted a 190e"

Two weeks later Ian ( I call him Barry, its a long story ;o)) phones me and says "Si Ive got you the perfect car, do you want it" It came out of the blue and I didnt really have the spare cash but it was to good to miss.

I visited 124 works a few weeks later to view my purchase and its a beauty :thumb:

F plate 190e 2.6, 86K miles on the clock, spotless leather interior, a solid runner.

The guys at 124 works have already started to work on the car, its been off the road for 6 months so its needs a few jobs doing. Needless to say Ian has clearly listed whats required and the cost for each job, the "restoration" is progressing nicely and Im looking forwards to using in anger this year.

Thanks to Ian, Chris and the team at 124 works for sourcing such a solid car, their expertise and know how !

Many Thanks

Si :bannana:

Just to expand a little about the car. As Si says it had not been run for 6 months and it needed a starter motor. Having a spare one on the shelf the Motor was duly fitted in minutes by Chris. (He is getting quite good at this). Put a slave battery on car and low and behold it started and ran first turn of the key. Who says Mercs are cr@p. The car runs superb with no banging or knocking from the front end. Up the ramps it went (ok so neeeded first gear for those who were going to comment ) looked under and there is NO Rust at all!!! The only fault we could find is that the back box has split round the intake side of it. Whilst Si was there we fitted some lowering springs that once again we found on a shelf. Its a tad low so we will raise it a little. The car has working Cruise and Air Con. Wish it was mine. I am rather embarrased to state what it cost as it was a steal.

F plate makes it a 1988. The 2.6 first saw the light of day in 1987 I believe? It will be a solvent based paint car. :thumb: My 1988 was the same---- far better underneath than my water based paint 1992. Front timing chain might be worth a check if its a single chain engine the 4 cylinder units changed to duplex in 88/89 not sure if the sixes were duplex chain from the off or not??

Thanks grober, sounds like a good one then ! Im sure the guys will check the chain when they service the car, but I will give them a gentle reminder

cheers

Si.
