That new car smell

Hey all,

(Please move if not posted in right place)

I recently bought my first Merc in January this year, an approved used 2011 C220 CDI saloon (facelift model) in palladium silver and am absolutely loving it.

Only thing is, that new car smell is fading away :(
Nearly 5 months later and even with two small kids, I can still smell it as I open the door.

Being a used car, I know it's not a "new car smell" but a smell given when they valeted it at the time I bought it.

Now I want that smell back, does anyone know what Mercedes uses?
I know it may vary from location to location, I bought my car from Mercedes Benz Retail Loughton (North East London).

Anyone recently bought from there or had car serviced and valeted there, should know the smell I'm talking about.

It's fresh, not over powering, and it completes my Mercedes driving experience.

Thanks

What was the answer to the obvious question?

you could always sell it and buy another new car and keep doing that every 5 months ? just a suggestion

I would if I could, but I can't so I shan't :-)

Why you cant go to main dealer and asked them what product used to valet your car?

I probably should have added, opening hours and my work hours don't allow me to pop by.

I did however send my sales guys an email if he could tell me, he was taking his time responding, in the end replied that its something that the valeting company uses and Mercedes cant recommend it.

Anyway if no one knows, its not a biggy, was just throwing it out there.
Would have been nice to use what was used, I'll just have to go for my second option....Chemical Guys Stripper Scent, sounds fun ;-)

Cheers all.

Get a hold of the Valet Company - no?

Again, its finding the time to get there while they are open.

If you called them do you think they may be able to send you some if you paid via inet prior....?

Possibly the new car "smell" is actually a " lack of smell"= the normal emanations of car materials--carpet/leather/plastic minus all the human and another detritus that contaminates car interior. Major one is a build up of bacterial contamination in the aircon components often compounded by poor drainage channels.:fail I'm sure there are scented aircon treatments which kill these bacteria and also have suitable volatile additives to give that fresh smell to permeate the cabin space.:thumb: Air con specialists might be a good place to enquire?

Having recently just bought my car on Sunday I asked the dealer and he said 'Pot Pourri'.

I have just ordered off ebay so will wait and see if it smells the same!

Before this I use the Autoglym spray which I find is the closest to the new car smell.

I have got to say I have tried many but this one comes closet to the real leather scent. Its cheap enough to try and by sliding the plastic cover down you are able to control the strength. :bannana:

First of all try a product called CleanAir by AQuartz. This will De-Odourise the interior. It's not cheap and you only get 120ml but this will do the interior of your car.

Have a look at detailing world as there is abundance of information regarding this kind of stuff. I dare say that the dealer will be using Autosmart products as it's very popular within automotive circles.

I will try and find some good smelly products in the mean time as its been a while since i've looked into it. Word of mouth and trial / error are the two best methods of finding the product for you!

Yeah I am also going to suggest you the new car smell spray.. because I think its the best way to get back your new car smell. but there solution is always there, you can sale it and buy a new again. Lolxx.

Isnt that sort of cheating, even if you get the scent to match when you eventually get a new car it will smell the same as your old car...

too deep...?
