Sun came out in Warrington today, so out came the pela oil pump.
Old oil out filter off new filter on and fresh Mobil 1 in took just under the hour. When I think what I did in the old days:eek: on my back covered in oil then cleaning it off the path.
Thank god for oil extractors. :D

A sheet of cardboard and an old washing up bowl is still my preferred method.

Yep, me too. I don't like extractors. I've had one for years now but don't use it. Still, they do make it handy. But you can't beat hot oil running out of the sump.

P.s. should not be used on VAG products as they tend to have a very fine gauze fitted to the oil pump pick up.

Washing up bowl for me too,and the satisfaction of fitting a new sump washer, plus
doing a quick clean up and inspection whilst underneath.

I remember the first time I changed oil - can't remember which car but either an Opel Manta 2.0 GTE or MK4 Escort 1.6GL.

Jack the car up and on axle stands at the rear, jack at the front with a black empty 'oil can' from Halfords specifically for the job. All done on the public road. Highly dangerous now I think about it although I never got under the car.

Some Wynns engine cleaner first and then away you go.

Don't forget the replacement sump plug gasket before you start to empty the oil...

Allergo! God be with the days. I had a 1500 version in a sh1te burgundy colour, a left hooker too. Never changed the oil, actually never did anything to it bar let the local cops take off me!!!

Well, when I had my one I never had two pennies to rub together. Always out drinking, partying etc, etc, etc ;) Actually, come to think about it I'm somewhat surprised I had the money to buy it in the first place!

My dad had a sh1t brown (literally) 1978 T plate 1500 'Super' with no optional rev counter fitted but something that looked like a sniper rifle cross hairs instead and a revolting light brown vellloooooourrrrrrrrrr interior.

I can remember when 'quick' (used in the loosest possible terms) acceleration was required - a quick pull out of the choke made it go quite a bit quicker.

:D

I think mine may have been a 'super' too, it was deffo a 1500, possibly a '77. No rev counter & velour rings a bell. Glad I can't remember...

Has the super badge next to 1500 - not sure what was super about it.

I have quite fond memories of it (and I actually like the shape - it had the flush rear lights rather than the ones that stick out which I hated) but I was quite young when this car was the family car.

That's my excuse anyway. :D

It was a practical car...I must have had seven or eight in it when the pubs closed!

Allegro loosely translates as brisk - not sure the owners would agree. My parents had V and W reg Princess' back in the day - one in brown with beige velour and the other in silver over maroon with matching maroon interior - horrific.

It was Super when compared to the (even) more modest Deluxe !

A Mark 1 or Mark 2 then. The Mark 3 had the protruding rear lights and more plastic / less chrome.

White Allegro - our first family car. MPR 17W, I seem to remember. Black bumpers.

Dad had gone teetotal and been rebuilding his career, so we'd only had holiday rentals 'til then. It was a company car - when the engine popped on the M5, we got it back with a 'gold seal' engine. He bought the car from his employers in the end. I spent all my time around it - cleaning it or just sitting in the drivers seat pretending I could drive :o

He traded it in for a B reg Rover 213S.

I learned to drive in that 213, and it got smashed (non-fault on my part) on the same day I passed my driving test. A potato lorry hit me on my first solo drive.

Got it back, repaired, and nice and shiny it was too. I hadn't reached 18, when a poorly-judged race against a Capri ended up on Worcester racecourse (the horse one). It culminated with a 6foot nosedive at about 30mph off the end of the car park. Sorry Dad, never did tell you the full truth about that :(

Fond memories though :)

Ours was BDF 294T and had chrome bumpers as Scott_F highlighted.

I guess a MK2 as I seem to remember the Vs or Ws had the protruding rear lights.
