If any of you are looking for a great leather cleaner which is easy to use and works extremely well AND which does not make your leather shiny, my recommendation is to use this stuff:

Gliptone Liquid Leather

It really is one of the very few products that I have found which gets your leather looking new by keeping it matt rather than shiny.

In particular, I use the 'GT12 thick concentrated gentle cleaner' every few weeks to give the seats a 'deep' clean and I use the 'GT15 trigger spray cleaner' almost every week just to keep on top of the everyday much that builds up - especially things like blue jean stains which is a nightmare on lighter leathers but can even make black leather develop a shine over time.

They even do a triple pack with a conditioner for £23 but I've never felt the need to use the conditioner (don't keep my cars long enough for it to matter!).

I use Gliptone cleaner and condition and must admit I've been very impressed. It leaves a lovely non-shiny finish and I rather like the smell too - It actually smells quite leathery!

Just ordered the pack for £23, seems really good value mate. Thanks for the tip. As I said last night and as I think you could see yourself my drivers bottom bolster has already started to go shiny which I really don't like so hopefully this stuff will bring it back to its original state and give it that new Matt look.:thumb::thumb::thumb:

+1 for Gliptone Liquid Leather :)

Very easy to use, effective and leaves a clean 'as new' look/feel/smell to leather rather than the greasy finish that attracts more dust/dirt which some other products seem to.

Very reasonably priced too :thumb:

Top tip from me is to clean/condition the leather on a warm day - the leather is softer, easier to clean etc.

No problem guys - glad to be of help again (despite being an outcast these days)!

Benjy - this stuff will 100% get rid of the shininess, I promise! Update when you've used it and let us all know!

Just brought some online - am going to try it out next weekend. Have heard good things about Gliptone.
Do you use a leather brush to apply it?

Yes, the thick cleaner works best with a leather brush. One like this to be precise:

Swissvax Leather Brush from The Ultimate Finish

Here is how I do it:

  • Wipe the leather with a damp cloth (it's best to apply the cleaner to a slightly damp surface)
  • Apply the GT12 (thick) cleaner to the brush and work it into the leather
  • Wipe residue off with a damp cloth, rinsing the cloth regularly in clean warm water (if your leather is really grimy then you'll see this on the cloth or in your bucket of clean rinsing water at this stage!)
  • Either leave to dry if a warm day or wipe lightly with a dry towel to aid drying if necessary. Don't rub too hard as the leather will ultimately dry by itself
  • Enjoy nice clean and matt leather for another couple of weeks

I don't use the brush with the more frequently used trigger spray cleaner - I just use that to give the seats a quick wipe over with a clean, lint-free cloth.

Mercedes Leather

Question,is "Mercedes Leather" real leather, someone told me it was synthetic.

I always use gliptone, its one of the best.

Used gliptone in every car but honestly find the smell revolting.

Some love it, some don't! It's a bit strong at first but eases after a few days/a week or so. Fortunately the leather stays looking good for longer :)

Another reason to do it on a warm day - you can then leave the windows ajar to clear the air in the cabin once done ;)

Well, even 10c is better than -10c, I'm sure you know what I mean.

Or as with most cleaning/detailing, perhaps wait for the better weather anyway :)

Try putting a drop of water on the leather. If it sits there for ages it's Artico/MBTex or the modern MB PU coated leather. It wont matter what you clean it with it wont be absorbed.
If the water drop spreads out and slowly disappears then it's uncoated leather, Nappa, Passion, Exclusive or leather in a much older MB. Treat it with Gliptone and watch it soften and condition.

I've used Gliptone on my Nappa leather from new and can 100% recommend it. Cleans, conditions and keeps that wonderful leather smell. :thumb:

To be honest, I don't think the cleaner has a strong smell at all.

However, the conditioner does most definitely have a strong smell but I tend not to use that anyway.

So what do you use to condition the leather after cleaning?

Yeah, was referring to this part. natural smell of leather allegedly! more like s**t tbh.

I don't....never keep a car long enough for it to matter! As long as it's clean and looks like new when I own thevdar, that's all that matters.

Yeah, never let it escalate to needing a recondition is the key I guess!:D
