The BEST leather cleaner!

If any of you are looking for a great leather cleaner which is easy to use and works extremely well AND which does not make your leather shiny, my recommendation is to use this stuff:

Gliptone Liquid Leather

It really is one of the very few products that I have found which gets your leather looking new by keeping it matt rather than shiny.

In particular, I use the 'GT12 thick concentrated gentle cleaner' every few weeks to give the seats a 'deep' clean and I use the 'GT15 trigger spray cleaner' almost every week just to keep on top of the everyday much that builds up - especially things like blue jean stains which is a nightmare on lighter leathers but can even make black leather develop a shine over time.

They even do a triple pack with a conditioner for £23 but I've never felt the need to use the conditioner (don't keep my cars long enough for it to matter!).

Just ordered it!! Thanks

Over the years on different cars I have used all manner of cleaners and feeds.... My top tip (i have certainly never noticed any harm from using them).......

......Baby Wipes: I have the really pale grey hide (dont think its called Alpaca) in my W208 CLK and i had an almost champagne/magnolia leather in my Duchatelet W124 (icluding the stearing wheel) and baby wipes clean everything, seats, stearing wheels, carpet marks, very fine/soft velour upholstry, dashboard plastics. The lot!!!! buff off after with a soft cloth and occasionaly a little leather food, and it always looks spot on!

Seconded!

To throw a spanner in the works..

I've always been partial to Meguiars Gold Class Leather Cleaner and Conditioner.

I don't usually go for cleaner and conditioners all-in-one, but this stuff really is very good!

Obsorbs very well and leaves the leathers supple and smelling like new!

baby wipes for spills, saddle soap about every when I feel like and Lord Sheraton, gives a olde fashioned kind of look to the leather, bit deeper/darker (black) smells nice too. E45 cream works also. :thumb:

Don't use babywipes - you are damaging your leather - I only use LTT products - These is pretty much the best you can get.

Do we make all our own products?

No. We do not pretend to be chemists.
LTT are specialists in how products are used and work best on the diverse range of leather finishes on the market today.
How a product is used is as important as the product itself. Either, product or process, if incorrectly chosen has the potential to damage leather.

LTT Leathercare products are formulated specifically for us by leather technologists who have an international reputation for quality and innovation in the fabric and leather cleaning and restoration
Once a product has been designed, sampled and laboratory tested it is put out to specialist work shops, across Europe to be tested by technicians in the industry like our own, who understand the applications and use of products in the field.
Only when a product has been through this double testing will it be considered for production.
LTT Leathercare products are only available from LTT Leathercare and their authorised stockists. Many individual carpet cleaners and technicians may carry stock for sale. If you are unsure whether the product is genuine please ring in with details.
Prices across the U.K will be fairly consistent apart from occasional special offers.

LTT products are widely used in the industry because they produce better results, faster. Whether in the trade or using our products as a consumer on your own furniture or car the benefits are the same.
Good results mean repeat business and we have a very strong reputation for repeat orders

How do baby wipes damage leather ?

Cars are in danger of following the cosmetic industry with exotic packaging, pseudo scientific names and high prices all dream't up by marketing exec's to confuse punters into buying "snake oil" preperations.
Leather has been around for long enough for people not to be taken in by marketing mumbo jumbo.

Baby wipes are a very alkiline product (they neutralise the acid in urine) Not good for leather, they break down the finish which eventually leads to cracks.

Well in my 25 years of using Johnsons Baby wipes and for 6 years on my current car I have no cracks, the wipes are PH balanced.
Further when a car cleaning product passes the strict testing regime that baby products do I will have some confidence in their long term performance.
None of these "snake oil products" have the same standard of testing and none would accept liability for damage to skin as a Baby products manufacturer must.
Remember you and your family are in close contact with your seats for extended periods, only recently resolved are the cases of Leather suites severely damaging peoples skins.
Avoid these trendy valeting products like the plague, would you put them on your babies skin ?

I have just got the Gliptone pack, having run out of my previous supply. The cleaner and conditioner both have new labels, and (methinks) a slightly changed formula. The cleaner used to have a syrup-like consistency, but my new one is more like jam. The conditioner also seems thicker now, which means you use more of it. Not sure either of these represents an improvement. However, this is my first encounter with the quick cleaner, and I do like that.

However, as an alternative, Buffalo leather do a good range of products:

Buffalo Leather Repairs - Home (and Products) - Restoration Repair and Care Products

On the controversial matter of the smell, I find the buffalo leather conditioner has a much nicer smell than Gliptone, which I find very artificial. That probably sounds daft, as the modern tanning process means that new leather does not have that characteristic smell, so any smell is going to be artificial :). The only problem with the buffalo conditioner is that the lovely smell does not last as long as the chemical smell of Gliptone. They also do a leather fragrance, but I would not recommend that. Treated my car seats with it, and could smell nothing 24 hours later.

Sure it's not the cold making them appear thicker?

Sure it's not the cold making them appear thicker?

Possibly, but I have the remainder of my last bottle of cleaner sat right next to the new one for several days now. I imagine they are at the same temperature by now, and there is still a definite difference in consistency. The website describes the cleaner as thick concentrated gentle cleaner, and the conditioner as a thick cream, so I think they are supposed to be like that.

Getting some of this next week! Hope it works! :)

How often do you guys clean/treat your leather?

I have the perforated leather in my car and am a bit weary of all the product clogging the holes.

I used the gliptone stuff on my cream seats over the weekend and they came up good!!! Thanks!!

the swissvax leather stuff is very good
