Doesn't both the SLR and Maybach still have this excellent system? I would hope this latest electro hydraulic system is the next generation improvement regarding the braking system.

Yes John they do,, I did not know the Maybach used it (just looked it up), as the SL has a major face lift I believe that the SLR is also going through a change.

I have no complaints with the SBC,, you cant here it in the SL asa that is not as quiet as the 211

I thought the SBC was very good too. Perhaps if they had spent more time in R&D ironing out the bugs it would still be with us today?

I thought it was removed from the E-class because it was so unreliable?

SLR production is ending soon.

Coupe version already ended and convertible ending late 2008/early 2009.

From my understanding it was rushed through, the recalls have cost more than the faults, in my 2½ years on forums I have only dealt with one fault

I don't recall seeing any complaints about actual SBC problems.

The issue seems to have been recalls.

At the end of the day MB presumably figure it's not worth the hassle to them and the average customer doesn't perceive any benefit.

I think SBC on the E is outstanding but then I haven't had an opportunity to drive a facelift W211 for comparison.

SBC Hold has ceased working on my car, though I assume that the rest of SBC is still operating correctly as I haven't ploughed into any obstacles recently.

Must get it fixed.... It's amazing how much I miss it when reversing up a hill.

Its been taken away, you still have SBC stop,, they started doing this last year on safety grounds,, we had a big debate on it

I would never normally dream of challenging your statements, Television, because I know you know your stuff, but it is SBC Stop that MB withdrew, not SBC Hold.

Plus, I had SBC Hold working on my car until 4 weeks ago, when it was replaced by a warning message telling me it had failed;) :D

Sorry I got it backwards,, so sorry:mad:

Why. What can SBC do that a standard braking system can't?

No reason why a standard EBD system can't do that.

Anything else?

SBC simply replaces the servo with an electrical motor to pressurise the system. I know which will be more reliable longterm.

You said standard braking.
you can have Distronic with both EBD and SBC also the hold function

Keep the disc dry when its raining and the pads can move closer to the disc in certain conditions

Surely rotational forces keep the disc dry (except trough a flood!)? And pads float <1mm above the disc..

SBC is to braking systems what Marmite is to spreads. Most, if not all, of the owners (on this forum) of cars with SBC are firmly in the "Love it" camp.
