The I.A.M

Passing the IAM test is fine in a auto but if you move on to become an observer in your IAM local group, you may be asked to demonstrate in a manual or semi-auto.

Interesting, I passed the test in an auto, but did the IAM commercial vehicle test in a van (manual), and did my observer training in a manual car :p

I took my IAM test years ago and have retaken it twice since just for the sake of keeping uptodate. Years ago Privilege Insurance offered a Masterdrive course which gave you a discount. I took and passed that as well. BUT the reality is that you are are only as safe as your worse bit of driving. Driving like a saint 95% of the time is all well and good but the reality is the danger occurs when you are in the 5%. Hands up whose never gambled on an amber, whose never been under the two second rule, whose never been using so much power that your ESP ABS had to come on....... I could go on but our driver training helps but a level head helps when it matters.

Do you not think that the worst driving of someone who practices what the IAM teaches is still going to be of a higher standard than the driving of the majority of drivers on our roads?

Maybe, but you know what I mean.

Have you considered RoSPA with it's compulsory re-tests? :p And you get graded, if you don't get Gold first time round, it's something to aim for next time you take the test!
