Went on economy run to see what I could get from my 3.5litre petrol car.....35.7mpg I think is brilliant!

Managed 35.9mpg over the weekend-tantalisingly close to 36mpg which I rarely achieved in my C180K. Is the high mpg figure down to the 7g gearbox earning its keep?

The 7g will enable a low engine speed at 50 to 60mph. It will help with mpg

I've noticed that cruising at 70mph keeps the revs below 2000. Incidently, just in case anyone thinks I'm not having fun with my 3.5 litre car, other days I give it its head and mpg drops to low 20s......

That's the beauty of big engined Mercs, flexibility ....

One can pootle about wafting effortlessly from A to B, or one can drive "enthusiastically" and still arrive composed ;)

Thats still not bad if you are spanking the life out of it

LOL. I haven't come close to driving it that hard, it only takes 7 ish secs to be over 70! If you are doing 70 and floor it (for instance when flashed by a BM!) it would (I believe) absolutely fly. An S Class engine in a C Class is a lot of fun :)

Captured the registration numbers :)

Glad you're enjoying the 3.5!! Same engine in my CLS and it will seriously shift. Unquestionably rapid from 0-60, but completely agree flooring it (where legally permitted) when already at UK motorway speeds it seems to hit 3 figures almost in the blink of an eye. Definitely much more power at the top end than my previous M112 3.2 CLK.

The sound is beautiful too, especially over 3000rpm as was mentioned previously, the sort of burbling noise that you would expect from a V8. Surprised there are so few of these around (I think I am the only CLS350 owner on the CLS owners register on this forum).

On the fuel consumption you are doing much better than me though. I haven't seen 30 yet, although until a week or two ago I was running on duff cam sensors and a failing oxygen sensor, already seeing improvements so hopefully 30+ should be achievable on a steady motorway cruise, even with the heavier body/bigger size of the CLS. I could easily see 37 on my CLK so will be disappointed if the technology of the CGI can't deliver early 30s.

(I think I am the only CLS350 owner on the CLS owners register on this forum).

Assuming that your V5 describes your car as a MERCEDES CLS 350 CGI AUTO then there are 365 of them in the UK. I believe your engine is the later CGI version mine is a 350 non CGI so you should be able to get better fuel consumption although I suspect a CLS is heavier than mine. Glad you love the engine, it is cool :)

Yep, that's the one. The howmanyleft stats indicate at the peak there were 590 of mine in the UK in Q3 2009, dipping to 365 in Q1 2012.

So I guess lots of used ones being exported/sold abroad (or stolen and shipped abroad?!). I suspect they are seriously cheaper to buy as used cars over here as not as fashionable as their diesel equivalents.

Still, a pretty rare car which will no doubt help keep the values from slipping too much further. Only 100ish of your model around?! That's crazy.

I just checked and there are 393 CLS 55 AMGs left so your car is rarer!

Just looking up the number of various Mercedes left in the UK:

Funnily enough I saw one of those yesterday (parked in Ascot).

When we first went past we were approaching it from behind, I could see the M-B star on the bootlid but couldn't figure out what the hell it was! On the way back it was still there and looking at it from the front I finally twigged what it was.

Those C63's, ( 1,618 ) common as muck ;)

CL 55 AMG Auto = 271
CL 55 AMG Kompressor = 162

CL 55 AMG Auto = 271
CL 55 AMG Kompressor = 162

Why the split? What's the difference, I thought all CLS55 were kompressors and auto?
