Hi all,

Today's fresh niggle with the 211 - no auto-open windows/sunroof. It was a hot day and I knew I would need the car a little later on, so I went out and attempted to open all the windows. As usual, I pressed the unlock fob button and held it down. On this occasion, nothing happened. so I tried it a few times, and even fetched the spare key and tried that - without success.

So I manually sent a couple of windows down and tried to lock the car, holding down the lock button to make the windows close. They didn't budge.

They are working again now, but only after I did that reset routine on all windows and the sunroof, i.e. holding the switch down for a few seconds after they reached the bottom of their travel, and the same up again, and also with the sunroof.

Is that the established way to get out of this problem, or was I just lucky?

You were pointing key at the sensor on the door handle weren't you?

I'm pretty sure you would have been doing, but just checking.

Yes, I definitely was! ;)

I use this function all the time, but today, for some reason, it just wasn't playing ball.

It looked like rain here an hour ago, so I went out to shut the windows and sunroof, and it worked perfectly normally! One long press on the lock button, and everything slid shut as it should.

Oh well...!

Just out of interest, when you engage summer opening, do both front seat ventilators come on?
On mine, only the driver's side one switches on.

Will all the windows / sunroof on my E class open and close at the press of the remote?

I used to have this feature on other cars and found it quite useful.

Do I need to turn it on in the menu?

I didn't. Just hold the fob in fairly close proximity to the driver's door handle, with the IR window at the pointy end facing the IR receiver port in the handle. Press the open button but keep it held down for as long as you want the windows/sunroof to open. They stop as soon as you let go.

I would say yes they will.

What year is your car?

just an idea but direct sunlight blocks infra red quite nicely..?

This is a good point.

Yes, indeed a good point. I'd say it is a possibility as it was very sunny at the time, although the sensor in the handle was facing directly away from the sun at the time. The fob was pointing in the right direction though...
