Hi all,
I have purchased an original loom for heated seats including the trim and switchgear, however...........

The heated seat pads I have been looking at are the Waeco MSH50 (£65) and the MSH200 (£125).

The cheaper ones are made with elements of coated wire, the more expensive ones are higher quality carbon pads able to be cut to size.

I had resolved to get the more expensive ones as I thought being able to cut to size would make the install easier in case there are metal supports in the seat base or something.

My problem is that the more expensive ones have a dial with variable temp control, whereas the cheaper ones have 2 different heat settings (as per the original factory fit option).

My question (finally) is for someone with a bit of electrical nous, will I have a problem wiring to the original loom the pads with the variable heat setting or will I be able to bypass that so I have just the 2 heat settings ?

Any advice greatfully received as i'd hate to spend loads and be unable to fit them.

Cheers as always

You don't need the temp control stuff that comes with the carbon pads - the merc switch-pack handles all of that. The heat pads will connect directly to the car's loom and by any control modules that come supplied with the pads, they are for generic installs in any car.

PS. you can get good quality carbon pads on ebay for a lot less...

Cheers azaman, not just me up this late then :)

Is there any way of telling the good quality from the bad ?

Not sure why I'm even up at this time...

Just look for a reputable seller on ebay - not many places that manufacture these so they are mostly all of good quality. I did this mod a few years back and paid around £60 for just the pads, which is all you need. The carbon pads heat up quicker, are more durable and easier to fit so go with these.

I posted a how-to on here ages ago, might still be around. It was for c-coupe but will give you a good ideal of the labour involved.

Brilliant, thanks mate. Just spotted a set on there for £70 they're a good size pad too.
Will check your guide out in the morning.
Cheers

We regularly fit the 50, we simply cut the supplied plugs off and then the black wire goes to brown on the car and the other two (orange & yellow i think ) get joined and connected to the other wire from the car...

Im sure the more expensive pad would work the same but cant be sure.

Cheers mate, that settles it then i'll avoid the 50's and just hope those ones are on a par with the MSH200's but cheaper.
I always thought the MSH50 pads were a little on the small side anyway.
Can't wait for the loom to arrive now so I can at least get the wiring laid.

I have heard that the carbon ones are supposed to be way better and as has already been mentioned they heat up a heluva a lot quicker!

Good luck with your install bits will arrive sometime next week :)

Cheers Billy, just hope the pads turn out to be good quality.

This is great, just what I have been looking for.

Just confirm c class coupe harness A2034405113, is that right?

And where are you getting the pads from?

The link is above where I've purchased mine.

There was someone who contacted me privately with a pair of MSH100 Waeco pads he was selling for £70. They are the carbon pads that are the same as the MSH200 ones except the control is 2 setting instead of variable. If you're interested, I can PM him back and give him your details if you like ?

Ok great, and the harness is the one listed.
Only need the pads with no wiring.
And yes please Pm him as I need 2 sets.

@zenman- I've PM'd the guy and given him your details and PM'd you his.

The link to the .pdf for the installation was actually for the Outside Temp Gauge - My mistake :)

There are some handy pics of the wiring and locations at Index of /images/W124_seats
