Thought it was time to consolidate all the work so far. Major thanks to Acid and the MSL team.
So.... The SL55 Conversion. One of those cars I think sometimes, should I do this or not... But after test driving many new cars (And owning quite a few), I decided time to take the SL55 to a new level. It is not my everyday car, far from it... But it had to be reliable. So here is the posts so far and I will keep upto date where possible.
Last May after deciding it was not worth supercharging the E46 M3 Convertible we had, I did a deal on a dream car of mine, the SL55 AMG. Having wanted one for years, and owned many different AMG's including the 6.3, the supercharged 5.5 lump was just 'the one to have' in a convertible form for me. Large tuning potential with a superb brake/handling package and all the toys required. At this point a pulley, uprated CM30 pump, x-pipe, and chargecooler were the modification plans and enjoy the car.
Which is precisely what I did. Last year.....
After discovering it had a previous crank pulley and map (Will a large bill for £3800 for this), it dyno'd at 510bhp and 530lb torque. IAT's were suffering badly and the car would pull back the power after a good 15 second run. Not to mention running rather rich at the top end. The M113K is notrious for heat issues, so the uprated CM30 pump was installed. This combined with a new remap hit a healthy 545bhp and 570lb-s torque. At this point this was perfect for the summer weather and the Eurocharged cooler and Weistec icebox just never got a chance to be fitted!
So as winter came about, the news of Weistec Engineering in the USA had released the newer 3.0L M113K Supercharger kit and a few talks with Acid from MSL Performance in Birmingham I ordered in January the first supercharger for the M113K in the UK.
And so the list of modifications started:
· Weistec Supercharger Kit 3.0L
· 650cc Injectors
· Kleemann Headers
· Torque Flow X Pipe
· Brabus Rear Backboxes
· Brabus K8 Front Bumper, Back Bumper and Illuminated Side Skirts
· Renntech V2 Lowering Module
· Cabrio-Module Roof Module
· Brabus Monoblocks 19” Hand Mirror Polished by Pureklas
· Brabus Illuminated Entry Panels
· Mercedes 82mm Throttle Body
· Quaife LSD
· Brabus Carbon Fibre Interior
· Full Respray by Auto Body Craft in Stokesley
· Eurocharged Chargecooler
· Weistec Ice Tank in Boot
· CM30 Pump
· New Piano Black Gearstick
· Retrimmed AMG Steering Wheel
· Brabus Locking Pins
· Brabus Rear Plates
· Aquamist Water Meth Kit
· Upgraded CKS Grill
· Aerial Removed and Smoothed
· Tinted Front Headlights
· 220mph Speedo

· Facelift SL65 Rear Lights
· Facelift SL65 Brake Light
And alot more I can't remember!

So once the charger arrived in mid March the plan was to go to MSL Performance for the guys to install the supercharger, ice tank, diff etc. But during that time the car was at Mercedes for a new roof pump, 2 front ABC struts, full steering rack, and various bushes etc. Whilst sadly delayed the car getting to MSL!
An attempt at a wrap!
The car got to MSL, and Acid and team did a fantastic job of fitting all the parts as required!
Once back at BFT, we changed various parts in the engine bay as well as fit all the interior parts and various other modules. Unfortunately the new navigation system was for the non-BOSE cars, and I didn't want to lose the BOSE setup. So back to standard COMAND!
Is now with Alex at AutoBodyCraft in Stokesley, and the Brabus backboxes are now fitted as well as the bodykit test fitted and aligned. All looking good!
Brabus rear bumper and exhausts:
So once it comes back further dyno tuning then onto the road! Then the interior retrim time.
