heres the story

3 mnths ago Brother in Law bought a BMW E36 328i M-Tec T reg. 3 weeks of having it, some scumbag stole the side door mouldings, £130 to replace the set.

Last night he was taken to hospital with food poisoning, I get a call at 1:30am saying his neighbour just rang saying someone was trying to break into his car. When i got there 10 mins later, all the side mouldings were gone, so was the complete front bumper!! they also damaged the lock attempting to get into the car. good old police said they would be round in the morning to get a statement!!!!

I really feel for the guy as he works hard like all of us and is only 24, pays silly insurance, and then cant really make a claim because it will effect his insurance drastically!

That sucks, I can't believe that people go to these lengths when like you say other people (such as your bro) work really hard day in day out to get where they want & what they want.

Any chance that his neighbour saw anything, reg no etc?

Hope you're brother recovers quickly from the food poisoining.

Keep an eye out for a modded 36... but that is a joke.

Must be someone local who knows the car... what are the chances on him getting cheap cctv put up?

Sorry to hear that mate, thats crazy, they need a slap

Sorry to here this. That's just out rageous. F***ing scumbags:devil:

As if the above was not enough the damm police couldn't even be bothered to come out:mad: Whose side are they on anyway??? Why an earth would they give the scum bags enough time for the getaway instead of sweeping the local area for suspects

What is this world coming too!!! Hope your Bro in Law gets better soon.

We are assured we have more Police, more community support officers??? more dterrants, stronger laws, and......... crime is down. There might not have been much the local constabulary could do, but it would have been nice for just a quick show of the flag, plus cruise of the area.

If we believe what we are told, then I dread to think how bad things used to be??

Sorry to hear of the loss and hopefully your brother-in-law soon recovers.

Exactly, even if they drove by and gave the area a quick sweep!

thanks for all the kind words guys, Brother in law is recovering good, trying to find the replacemnt parts 2nd hand to get him back on the road!

the neighbour heard something (the mouldings being pulled off), then half our later heard something else, so she came out, and saw 2 guys running away carrying a bumper!, then 10 mins later whilst she was watching over the car, one of them came back, had a look over the car once more and when she shouted at him, he legged it!

If the police had come when first called, they were very likely to have caught them! by the time i got there, they were long gone!

I know 50% of the local garages and bodyshops in the area, and they have all been informed to keep a look out!

Horrific...thats disguisting man, the lengths people go to these days...like what the hell?!

**Shakes head in dismay**

When you brother in law replaces the mouldings etc , he should discretely mark them so they can be recognised , and photograph the markings . A couple of small cuts in the bottom edge with a hacksaw , that sort of thing , no one else will ever notice them but he would recognise parts from his car.

If the theft is repeated again , he can casually check any local cars afterwards to see if they have his stolen parts .

Thats terrible, no consolation, I know, but we have had wheels, trim and cars taken from outside the house ( when we lived in Warwickshire) and cars damaged, and where were the Police? Dunno.

They keep saying they have too much to do, so Community Support Officers are now the thing, they dont work many lates, or nights, and are not properly trained to deal with catching these sorts of people. But the Government like them, because they are cheap! There is also an influx of ( cheaper) Traffic Officers supplied by the Highways Agency, with no Police powers
If the Police Authorities actually listened to people who wanted these sorts of crimes stopped, instead of worrying about statistics, accountants and performance indicators, then we might get a properly effective presence on the streets and motivated Officers who would be able to target these individuals.

Government cuts and the "popularity" of speed cameras have virtually desimated the Traffic departments who would have been able to keep a lid on crimes like these, as well as properly regulating traffic offences.
So, the Government and Chief Constables are wholly to blame for the likes of us getting our property damaged or stolen when it is parked on the streets, and I wouldnt be surprised if motorists, one way or another, dont generate the majority of taxes the government collects.

I dont sound like a bitter ex Traffic Cop do I? ;)

He could get them engraved! :D

Alternatively he could buy the standard E36 side mouldings, it's less likely they will be stolen.

thats the mad thing, when the first set got stolen, he engraved this set with his number plate, he also engraved the bumper under a bit of trim that could be removed easily.

A few E36 BM`s have been done lately, and one apparently got done a few weeks back, and the owner matches the description of the guy what the neighbour saw.

I think we will wait to see if his car comes back on the road with its mouldings and bumper back on then descretely check for the engravings. further action to be decided after that! after all it might not be them!

ive suggested this to him. :)

If it turns out to be him, we could have a mini GTG at his house , i could get my bat together with your bat and your bro's bat and we could go and say hello ..... ;)
