Car
E350CDI
our CLK will be 4.5 years old in March & we've been pondering on whether to keep or change, i'm about ready for a change, hubby - not so much!

had a nosey at what MB had got in the way of up to a year old & an E250 CGI sport cabrio caught my eye at the weekend, beautiful colour combination (i'm not a fan of black or white, however nice they look when clean) - it's maritius blue with grey leather.

any thoughts on this car? i don't know a great deal about the new E class. i had an E200 cabrio courtesy car in Sept & was very impressed with it.

Sounds great,if you liked the e200 cabrio then the 250 should be better(more power/torque but almost the same mpg/tax insurance),i'm sure you can use your female powers of persuation on your hubby;)

Steve - he actually asked earlier "show me this car again" ! my cunning plan may just be working...:D

Nab - good to hear you're still happy with yours :). a 350CDI will be our 2nd choice i think ;)

I had an E350 CDI Brabus D6 for a year and just sold it. It's an impressive car and very practical and great with the roof down.

I sold it because it was too floppy for me over rough roads (scuttle shake), I was sick of driving a diesel in general and well, I felt the car was just a bit dull (!). Thats me though pretty hard to please. ;)

The Comand implementation, quality, looks and the gadgets were all brilliant.

If I was to get an E again, I'd just get a Saloon. Roof down, I think there are better four seater cabriolets like the new BMW 6.

^Sounds like you will be posting some pics of your new car soon then:D;)

we can hope Steve! :D

i've always lusted after the 6 series, stunning car, but a nearly new one is a bit out of my price range unfortunately...
*nips off to buy an extra lotto ticket* ;)

i had a look at what cost a new 250cgi/350cdi would be & there's a special discount of an upgrade to a sport at no extra cost, £2035 discount in effect. wonder what discounts the stealers are up to at the moment as we head towards 1st of March??

Have you thought of part exchanging your car for a nearly new(up to a year old)250cgi?(the worst of the depreciation is in the 1st year).

the 250CGI that had caught my eye was only registered end of last July & is on at £34k, but, looking at new prices, it might be worth looking at that too. drive the deal have a price of £36,500 for a similar car brand new.

list price inc the current offer of free upgrade to a sport shows the 250CGI at £40,115 OTR (only extras we'd want are airscarf (i think), metallic & leather). that's an MB UK discount so i'd still expect some dealer discount to be available.

i don't expect an MD dealer to fully match an online broker price as i'd want to px ours, but they should be able to get close to a broker price. we got 8% off list price with the CLK (they took our Lexus IS300 px), not great, but we were pretty specific with what colour/interior/extras we wanted.

decisions, decisions!

You may not have seen an article in a recent mercedes Enthusiast mag which compared buying a new E250cgi saloon with a 1 year old E350cdi.
The diesel was overwhelmingly a better buy and a more enjoyable car.

Life's too short Abbie.... Get that cheque book out.....

i like your style! :thumb:

oh flipping heck, don't go & confuse me even more than i am already! :p i definitely want to try a diesel out, just don't know if it suits our low mileage (8k) or mainly town driving plus about 4 trips to cornwall a year (1k miles each)...

Didn't think that the Coupe and Cabrio were having a change in gear selector because of the platform it's based on?

That's a facelift interior, just the new steering wheel, screen, comand online and the media interface is now in the centre console not glovebox

I like mine it's fine for driving around town, don't expect massive fuel economy from doing that though but it's great on a long run, worth trying one out back to back with the 250CGI to see what you make of it. If it isn't a facelift 250CGI then it will be using the 5G box which is a bit iffy in that car compared to a 350/CDI 7G or 7G+

Based on the above it seems part exchanging the clk against a new 250cgi is your best bet:)

Why not test drive the diesel & the petrol but at your annual mileage i would go with the petrol especially if you get a new one as it will be the face lifted model with the new 7g+ box;)

I like these cars very much :) cdi or cgi doesnt mater, as long as its a cabrio.

What puts me off though is i see them mainly driven by women. A very popular ladee car.
Rather like the old xjs.

i think it was mainly because the diesel was better to drive and the used car of course had already depreciated in value so it wasn't all about fuel consumption.

thanks for all the extra info guys, very useful input & much appreciated!

there's lots to think about & i don't think i'll know any more until we've had a drive in a CGI & a CDI - hopefully soon, i'm going to give Derby & Nottingham a call tomorrow to see what they've got available :)
