Hello guys,

After some time being in Toyota Sport's cars lol ... on the side of the CL :bannana:
I have done almost 6.000miles last month in my '95 MR2 ... and I think I should move to something bigger safer and less thirsty...

I want to get an E-Class '01 or '02 ... CDI models ...
which CDI engines shall I prefer and look for?

I am more likely to look for estate models, but it is not written in stone.

Depends on what your journey's consist of. If its mainly motorway and very little town driving, then a 320cdi engine will be great because on a run it will be similar to the 220cdi (there is a very eco 200cdi in the c-class body but its SLOW).

The 220cdi's are slightly more economical than the 320, but there's hardly anything in it.

If you go to the 2003+ W211 E-class chassis then you have a choice between 220/270/280(which came with the facelift) and the 320. Get some test drives and see what you think

EDIT: my mate has an NA supra... it averages the same mpg as my 540i on each tank and its much slower, aparently the turbo version consumes the same or slightly less!

I must admit I was thinking of going for a 320CDI ...
does anyone know the mpg they generate on a real life driving?

I would say 80% I will be driving motorwat and 20% in town ...
I need about 69miles to get to London and 19 miles of those are in London driving ... the rest motorway to reach London.

I dont think I will be able to afford a 2003+ model although I would love to :(

Less thirsty? DOH! That's mine out of scope!

I would love a convertible trust me !!! But it would just eat me on petrol expenses :( As it is at the moment I am using the CL everry weekend lol

Well Budget decided and a price I could not resist!!!!
So I went for a Renault Laguna '03 model Dynamique Techno 2.2 dCi Sport Tourer.
It does have almost everything loaded ...
SatNav, Leather/Alcantara seats, Dual Zone climate control, all around airbags, Panoramic sunroof, nice 17" alloy's not the typical they go on the dynamic models.
It has 119.000miles and a small problem with the Turbo which I am getting sorted as we speak ...
The car cost me well under £1000 to buy so I like it a lot ...
and 150bhp is not bad I reccon.

I am afraid to say the 2.2dci Renault engine with turbo has had a LOT of problems and is very well documented on the web. I have a Laguna, but mine is a 3.0v6 and has been without question the most reliable car we have owned bar none. It has wanted nothing, not even a bulb, in 18 months. 65k from new. But I would not have bought the 2.2dci.

Hopefully, yours will be one of the good ones. They are nice cars.

I have driven it last night back home a total of 89miles.
I does drive beautifully ... although everytime the turbo goes in ... black smoke comes out from the back. So once the Turbo is replaced / reconditioned will have a better feel of it.

It does not have any other problems ... so will see how it goes.
I have a good feeling about this car lol.

And one pic
