Makes sense to me. Worldwide manufacturing capacity of all amufacturers has been running 30% over for many years. The credit crunch is forcing rationalisation and cost savings. If Merc and MB can save on collaberation in the background this is a good thing.

Maybe we'll finally get slippy diffs on Mercs - yey!
 
Well,*** has the "Public" face of the corporation correct

If I were MB or BMW ,I'd be as much aware as possible of what Dr.Porsche's progeny were up to AT ALL TIMES!(Especially in the financial markets!)

But wasn't the design and development done in Ford Germany I thought?

With globalisation it's unclear where a car truly originates from......most likely not from one country alone.

Platform sharing is not really rebadging though is it?

Last time Mazda/Ford rebadged a Fiesta that I can remember was the mid-late 90s 121/Fiesta. Same car, but the Mazda had different moulding around rear registration plate and a better warranty!!
