It was pretty hard to find cars on the site that had not actually been sold....... Nearly threw up when I saw the vanden plas Allegro on there. Now that was a truly horrible car. Seem to have seen that advert before, as well.

Everything has the same 'stunning' description too.

Shame it has an A reg on it: I hope the new owner re-regs it on a 62 plate.

yeh i know well too.. only down the road from me... his cars arent usually mint but he is pretty straight forward to deal with and he describes them quite accurately... (as much as youd expect from a dealer)

Maybe it is a 1962 model registered in 1963 ? :dk:

The A plate looks like the original.

I believe that the A suffix in 1963 wasn't universal throughout the whole of the UK. Only a few authorities used it (London being one of them). most still issued just the 3 number/3 letter registrations.
Which is why you dont see many of them around - even back in the day.
It wasn't until 1964 when the B suffix started that it was universal throughout the whole of the UK.
That is my understanding.

As said above, most of his stock is mutton dressed as lamb.

Mine was nowhere near the mint condition he states above, the seat belt arm was suffering from trim coming away and he only seemed to be interested in the fact it was (relativley) low milage.
As for the stereo install it took me two minutes and the head unit cost £90.

ALSO FITTED WITH A UPGRADED TOP OF THE RANGE CLARION STEREO SYSTEM WITH BLUETOOTH EXTERNAL MICROPHONE HANDSFREE FOR CRYSTAL CLEAR CALLS. ALSO SD CARD READER FOR YOUR FAVOURITE MUSIC. THIS SYSTEM WOULD HAVE COST A SMALL FORTUNE WHEN FITTED.

I think not.

As somebody looking to buy older 80's Merc's I just wondered where this selller and other specialists (Charles Ironside, CCBenz etc) get their stock from. Can't all be barn finds or from deceased relatives, can they?

As i've said i think he looks for low milage / unique examples.

They are out there, its just a case of buying them before joe public does then tarting them up and slapping a massive mark up on it, to make it look like its worth more than it is!

I think a lot are the result of the 'wanted' adverts in the magazines - I know of two CL's that made their way to Ironside and CCC without having been advertised first.

thx - Suppose with a MASSIVE mark up?

Yeah, there was a good example on here of a really low milage W124 coupe, I think it was either 6k or 12k, it came up on ebay and went for a moderate if not a little excessive amount, it was then up at CCC for something like £12k, the only saving grace was it was low milage, not a particulally desirable spec or colour.
