.........worthy of your hard-earned shekels.

"ClassicCars" issue no 453 (the one with two Sunbeam Tigers on the front cover) has got a few items of Mercedes related interest.
First off is on page 12 relating to a one-off 300SEL 6.3 coupe.
Pages 26 & 114 also dedicated to MB.
Plus of course the cover article about the Tigers.

Second magazine worth buying is this weeks Autocar.
No Mercedes articles - unless you ignore the 20 - yes 20 - page Mercedes-Benz special on 125 years of MB.
A special issue with a road test of a car that can do 0-200mph in 22.2 seconds and onto a top speed of 268mph in 7th gear.
I will let you guess what the car is......and no - it isn't a Smart.

Is it just me, or is anyone else annoyed at the number & size of 'advertising features' in the Autocar 5,000th roadtest edition? Plus the fact that this weeks edition is now £5.99. 'Advertising features' think that's the phrase they use - it's simply an advert as in paid for, not neccessairly a piece of journalism / writing so why should we pay the premium to read that (irrespective of how good the 'advertsing features' are.

I haven't had a chance to read the magazine properly but when I skimmed through it there's quite a bit of it. Jaguar, Mercedes etc.

There were six "advertorials" in total: Jauguar (20 pages), Mazda (12), Mercedes-Benz (20), Volkswagen (12), Seat (10), Land Rover (20) and Fiat (10); so 104 pages in total, or less than 25% of this week's edition's 410 pages. Of those, only Seat's "advertisement feature" can really be described as an advert (for the new Alhambra). All the others were sponsored journalistic articles ("special promotions"), including a wealth of well-written information about models from the respective companies' histories alongside their modern-day counterparts.

A standard edition of Autocar would have about 100 pages, so even without the advertorials, the magazine was three times its normal size, yet it cost little more than twice the standard cover price of £2.80. Excellent value, really. Ad if, like me, you have a subscription, the cover price is absorbed anyway.

Page 35: 2-page article on the new SLK
Page 41: first drive of the face-lifted C Class
Page 104: 2-page summary of the 1991 road test of the W140 400SE
Page 152: 2-page summary of the 2010 road test of the SLS AMG
Page 160: 2-page summary of the 1955 road test of the 300SL
Page 314: article looking at what 2030's S Class might offer
Page 337: running report on the S350 Bluetec
Page 410: article on the Benz Model 1

Plus a couple of honourable mentions in their Technology Timeline for the 300SL (first series production car to offer direct petrol injection as standard) and ESP, which first appeared in 1995. Oh, and there a summary of the 1999 road test of the original MCC Smart as well. :p

Had some time to read some of it and as you say it's nicely written, a good set of features. Great magazine and a nice collection of old road tests. Quite enjoyed the article on road test gone wrong, I'm sure they've got stacks of those stories!

I used to own a Sunbeam Tiger, so I'll be off to the newsagent later!
