I've been told by a semi-reliable source that my throttle cable is starting to wear. I have felt the power of the car deteriorate over time and when i explained this to him, he told me the throttle cable was to blame.

Its been extended for now, but he said its perished and should be renewed.... does this sound right to you guys?

Yup, had a similar thing on a C200 which was diminishing performance and preventing kick-down, new cable and she was good as new.

thats the exact problem i have. Where did you buy yours from? Mercedes or eurocar parts?

Got it from Maidstone Mercedes, have to watch out as we have found euros to be dearer a few times, not much but say 5/50 times.

Hi,
IIRC Euro car parts don,t do them I asked about one when I noticed my throttle was getting stiffer, though this may have changed as it was a few years ago now.

I'm blaming the throttle cable not because my throttle is stiff but the car has been losing power over time and now its so slow (i struggled to keep up with a 'sport' fiesta the other day). And it cant reach the rev limiter either which is weird.

Cable can stretch over time - but this can be easily adjusted out. Actually this is one of the checks I carry out on every secondhand car I've bought - checking that full pedal travel gives full throttle opening (or full pot on fly by wire).

I've adjusted it now and the throttle is much more responsive... seems to have solved the problem, but i must say that the thing that you wind open to stretch the throttle looks as if its at its limit, anymore winding and it (looks like) it might come out - so does this mean i need to buy a throttle cable from MB?
