Time for a shocks change?

E320 Avantgarde Estate
As my E320 Avantgarde Estate has covered 132,000 miles, I feel it would benefit from a shock absorber change to sharpen it up a bit. It's OK on the Mway but is a little rolly around the lanes :D

Anybody got any advice regarding OEM V aftermarket?

Also, while I am in there, any other items, bushes, springs etc that I could change that would improve the ride/response?

Cheers,

Hi,

You'll notice a huge improvement after fitting new dampers. At the same time check all the usual culprits like anti roll bar links, ball joints etc.

In the workshop I normally fit Bilstein dampers.

B36-2154 front upto 99 W210
B36-2155 rear upto 99 W210
B36-2156 front after 99 W210
BE3-6203 rear after 99 W210

All these for cars without self leveling.

regards,

Job

Thanks for that Job,

What would be a good price for the dampers?

Do all the estates have the self leveling suspension?

And if so does this greatly complicate things?

Cheers,

Hi,

I don't want to mention prices on this board, as this might be taken as commercial because I own a garage.

But the shocks can be bought cheapest from Euro Car Parts.

Bilstein/Eibach kit is oem MB (some springs/shocks have both names on them for some reason!) so you might want to check the price of the oem items, although I don't expect they will be cheaper on this type of part, not when the aftermarket is so competitive for suspension components.

OEM MB shocks are either made by Bilstein or Sach. I would just get the Bilstein ones as they are probably cheaper and just as good as original merc ones, if not better.

try http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/ for prices

also it is best to check with your insurance company first before fitting lowering springs, (eg Eibach) as if you have a crash and if you did not declare the modification, your car insurance may become void.

What would the Bilstein part numbers be for a 99 Elegance with Avantgarde Chassis and suspension? I know it sounds strange but it was a factory spec listed as a Sports chassis, but I have been told it is the same as Avantgarde.

There is a chassis break in 99. Call Euro Car Parts with your chassis no. to get part no. and prices.

Job
