Time to swap my CLS 350 Shooting Brake for a CLS 63 Shooting Brake. Advice?

Facelift was early 2015. Pre facelift has the performance pack, post facelift they replaced the performance pack with the S and 585hp

So it goes

Standard 550bhp
Performance Pack (pre facelift) 577bhp
S (post Facelift) 585bhp

Are you sure that's not just the saloon version though? I think the SB was only one version.

No there's definitely at least 2, looking at previous adverts, there is the 550 model, and the S with the S badge on the back at 585bhp post facelift. Whether there was a performance pack pre facelift model, I'm not 100% sure

Mine is the black one at Targa. As has been said, all are rwd but uniquely, the UK is the only market to get the full power 585bhp engine as fitted to the 4matic in rwd form, due to front prop interfering with pedal box. Ironically mine came from the factory with a 4matic badges on the wing, in a rare factory error! I should have left them on lol but the dealer remedied it after Notifying them but I do have a pic of it!

I love the CLS SB and it’s very rare for there to be 3 for sale at the same time, I’ve been following them for about 4 years! I think they’ll age well and become something of a cult classic in years to come.

Due to a ruptured disc in my back, I sold a 450bhp rwd Skyline track car and CL500 to get the CLS. They were second and third cars for me as daily I use a pickup truck. The CLS is great with tonnes of space as you already know from yours and the CLS is stupidly quick.

I’m selling because I live out in the country and the CLS was too wide to enjoy, I don’t want to be risking wing mirrors or alloys every trip, it gets dirty just by looking at it and I won’t leave it parked anywhere which means that using it with the family never really materialised anyway, not least because it’s not as spacious as the Hilux/Landcruiser we use daily. As a result it did little miles and has lost a fortune in depreciation. I bought it to keep it 10 years but it’s pointless if it’s not being used so it was time to make a decision. The depreciation is a very bitter pill to swallow but it is what it is. I can’t understand why the RS6’s hold their value so well, the CLS is far more classy and exclusive, it’s not 4wd but 99% of the time its way more fun and purer steering.

It really is last of the rwd big engined V8 Mercs. Good luck finding the right one. I think 3 is the most I’ve seen advertised at one time. They do offer finance ;)

Ps, I think in the UK pre facelift only came with the 557 engine (which was perf pack in other markets) iirc. I think it says that here from memory, if you haven’t already seen this video enjoy, bear in mind this is the 557 version! The S also has a faster gearbox.

So you’re the owner of the most beautiful one on there! I’ve been lusting after that one since I saw it, they really advertise it well. I would love it but it’s just too new and pricey for me.
Thanks for clarifying those points, definitely confirmed that i want an S.
really just need to sell the TVR so I have cash on hand to be able to do something!

Thanks :)

Most importantly the S has the limited slip diff as standard!!

I spoke with Tom at Targa today, price has been reduced by £3k earlier today btw!

Regarding the power, it's my understanding that it is not 585BHP, but it is 585PS which is in fact 577BHP

1PS is approx 0.9863 of an horsepower

Correct. In Europe, like all car manufacturers Mercedes use metric units of measure, so PS for power and torque in Nm, distance in mm, weight in kg, etc.

PS I can’t tell the difference between 585 BHP and 585 PS 😁

Don't get too hung up on having the S model. A simple remap from MSL on the 557bhp model takes it way above the S model anyway.
A quaife LSD can be fitted for £1500 approx so I'm not sure the additional cost of having an S badge is worth the premium being asked.

I wanted the E63S when I was looking last year and came to the above conclusion, bought a non S and am very happy with my decision.

I’m actually more interested in the facelift interior and headlights etc, that come with the S. plus there aren’t any non S models at the moment. But I’d look at one if there was one available

I understand. With the CLS SB being in such short supply I think you'd have to consider every one that comes on the market.

There was the red facelift cls estate at a garage in oxfordshire a little while back. Started at 39k and got reduced to 37 before it sold. Was the S spec as it was a FL.
I'm trying to decide between E and CLS to replace our e55 but I want a colour not greyscale. Could be a long wait!

That red one was a nice and rare looking car.

The intelligent headlights are very cool. When they illuminate they do this phased thing that reminds me of the Millennium Falcon making the jump to lightspeed! If a car comes the other way, they will dip where the car is but leave the n/s on full, the dip follows the oncoming car illuminating all around it.

Also you mentioned cooling seats, the air conditioned air comes out of them on mine.

Great thread, not really the right place for an introduction but I am now the owner of the Silver CLS63 S SB that was recently advertised. Nice to meet so many other owners. These cars are incredible! Will be more active on the forum as soon I find some more time.

Damn you! That was in my budget and close by, it didn't have all the options I wanted but wish I'd been in a position to consider it. It was a good price.

When you've found your new one, there's a whole thread of people who'd like your 350 SB here:

Good to know, I already have the advert written so as soon as I can I'll be listing it, it may be listed even before I find the new one, if we can share cars at home for a while
